Bring back the Combat Aftermath USS please, and add a couple of G5 mats...

If'dbe cool with that if I could get the likelihood of it containing high end (like the threat identifier, a 'quality' identifier. So quality 5 is guaranteed to contain some G5, quality 4 is likely, quality 3 is likely but in smaller quantities, etc etc.)

Like the Non-Human Signal Sources - where (recently) 4 = Scouts, 5 = Cargo, 6 = Cargo .... oh fdev 🤦‍♀️

I visited a Threat 0 CA last night (was the first I'd seen in months) and picked up a handful of G4 mats, so they are still around although a bit like hen's teeth...

Also ran into a couple of HGE's (I was actually looking for a Pirate Lord marker :) ) so not quite feeling all is lost in USS's currently.

Yeh I wouldn't say 'lost' either, and I am getting used to it, but it's such a shame to go from one system which was laborious but successful when it worked, to a less laborious search that resulted in very little success.

Take WoW for instance. If you're an armorer, you're gonna be doing a lot of mining. Mining in WoW is hardcore grind and you have to compete with other players on occasion too, BUT...where it differs from Elite, is that you CAN keep making progress, keep getting a little of what you want and if you do it long enough, you'll get enough of what you need and the time that this will take is calculable. In Elite, you get disappoitnment after disappointment (these are not the mats you are looking for /wavehand), to make painfully slow progress toward 100 of what you don't want, only to then have to go trade them for just 16 of what you DID want and start the process all over again. At least the old system of searching for HGEs didn't destroy my soul like this does. The OP is more about having more places to gather G5 mats than the state of USSes, so FWIW, I agree with you, but I stand by making Combat Aftermaths Great again.

I've not been a 'farmer' of USS's and used to pick them up as they appeared so never really noticed, or know, what particular type appeared where. (TBH I still don't!)
But - I had noticed with the new system (3.3) and being able to detect them, that HGE's were rare and that CA's suddenly started 'blackbox' missions too.

I've never found Pharma Isolators and a couple of other G5 mats, not a big deal as my engineering isn't particularly combat focussed, so had to trade off some other G5 mats to get PI's for my G5 DD mod on my Viper III, thanks for traders :)

With that disclaimer aside, I can understand the frustration of those for whom G5 mats are much needed, so agree, unreservedly, with the observations / requests to make them a little less rare!

I used to drop in on CA's all the time. Now I ignore them, but that's because I had only been dropping in on the new blackbox variety it seems. I didn't know the original/mats kind still existed.

Just now in Wyrd:

and

(G1-G4 - mostly 2-3)

so they are around, just 'quite rare' 🤷‍♀️

I support the OP.

That being said, it is pretty clear that the whole RNG mat gathering set of mechanics needs a revisit.

When mats do not spawn according to their in game descriptions, the game is fundamentally broken.

I recommend that the complicated system state defining spawn type / ship type defining manufactured spawn type / planet % RNG raw mat be supplemented with a reliable farm mechanic built on missions.

Keep the in game system state designations for mat type collections, but add to that copius missions that generate that type of mat.

For example, pharm isolators are supposed to spawn in outbreak systems. In outbreak systems, spawn missions that generate that reward.

Improvised components are supposed to be generated in civil unrest systems. In civil unrest systems generate copius missions that generate improvised components.

Wake data used to be farmed in famine, drop that mat in missions in famine systems.

This isn't an I win button because you still have to work for the mats.

I would go a step further and include raw mats with mission rewards.

Sorry to slightly necro this, but in a CA threat 1 right now, and there’s nothing here. No scenario, nada. Same thing yesterday. Scenarios are very hit-n-miss for me.

Then again just got 5 PI in an outbreak HGE in the same system so not all bad.

I dropped in to a few CAs the other day , and all were empty. No materials, or scenarios.

instead of making it easier..which as far as I am concerned its currently very easy already to find mats....why not collaborate?

Why not start a thread that is simply notifying everyone what is currently working for them?

I have no problem finding PI's MSC's IC's and other g5 mats.

Just for now to help a bit, and keep in mind that no matter what one person accomplishes, rng is not the same to everyone all the time.

Today I wanted to top off my Military Supercapacitors, sadly most of the civil war system I went to had almost no HGE's so never found any, only wasted an hour on that though..
Then I went to Deciat to improve a few modules for the ship I was in, stopped at the nav first because...its what I do when I am looking for stuff and I don't really care what a systems state is in any more because like the rng on planet mats, you can find anything anywhere, and all I want is HGE's
first scan gave me 3 HGE's, 1 was for the faction in Civil Unrest, the other 2 were for the current factions at war.
So I got MSC's and Core Dynamics and Proprietary Composites from these 3 HGE's
Went back to the nav and scanned again, same, got 3 more HGE's, pretty much the same goodies again.
Did the nav one last time and only got 2 HGE's this time, but same results.
Got all I needed then finished off the modules I went there for in the first place.

FWIW, last week I needed PI's, this was also very easy after I managed to find a system with 2 factions in outbreak. and 3-4 HGE's every time I went to the Nav. too easy..
As such, I can't be bothered with combat aftermaths or encoded, its too easy to trade down.

Anyway...collaboration goes a long way and one persons confirmation will help others to know that at even if RNG isn't in their favor, that they can find what they are after in places that others have just recently confirmed.

What I meant when I said above that all I want is HGE's, I do that because even though I have the list that says where to find what, many months ago whilst checking all the HGE's in an 100% empire small population system where the HGE's were there every time I looked, I kept finding Radiolic Alloy and MSC's...since then I stopped worrying about what faction type system gives what, all I care is that there are a continual supply of HGE's and sometimes its a simple matter of flying back and forth between 2-3 systems to get them.
Outbreak for PI's seems to be the only one that I know of that is still consistent and pretty much needs an outbreak system or a system that was just in or is about to be in outbreak.

Maybe we need a new service like the Fuel Rats...we need Mat Rats. Someone to scour the galaxy to find the conditions that produce the HGEs required and report it to the forum!

Thing that works for me is to ignore the system states as the galmap gives them, and eddb for that matter, as they are only the controlling faction state. Check faction states instead. Inara shows that best in the ‘nearest’ tab. Then look for USS with matching faction and state. As others have said, being in an independant system also seems to play a part.

Again, none of this is new, so your statistical analysis needs to record...

Faction allegiance
Faction state
Population
System allegiance
USS ‘level’
RNG

I'd also be quite happy, if HGEs (and others) had threat levels.
Anything above 0 will have something you have to fight, or simply survive while you scoop up the goodies.
Threat 1-2 has more materials than a threat 0 floating around, and 1-4 "crazed" wanted NPC's, present. These NPC's attack on sight, because you happened to turn up and "witness" their crime of murder. They might also drop rare materials.

Threat 3+ have more tougher NPC's, who are also crazed, but in order to get the materials, you need to kill them, and they will all drop a decent amount of them.
The higher the threat, the more reinforcements they might send (aka, waves), all dropping decent rare materials.
