Bring back the Krait!

Do we need more tiny useless ships? I mean more ships is good but I rarely see CMDRs flying anything smaller than DBs or cobra

It would be nice but what was special about it? I never did get one.

It seems like there are plenty of ships in E: D already.

The Krait already in the old games was shown as an outdated ship. Its primary feature was that there were many old ones still around and pirates used them as they were cheap.
.
So yes, those who find that the Sidewinder is too big and powerful for them might indeed enjoy the Krait... we just haven't found that player yet. The Krait in this game has two options:
.
1. Stick to the lore and end up as the weaker conterpart of the Hauler. Nobody will use it, it'll be an utter waste of development time.
2. Turn the Krait into a useable ship and break out of the lore. Unfortunately that's a good way to disappoint all those who wanted the Krait at all.
.
There's no way to bring the Krait into this game without disappointing a lot of people, so unfortunately the best way to go is to leave nostalgia where it's best: in the past.

I was looking through this list of Elite 2 ships recently.

I played the game to death on the Amiga and fondly remembered the large variety of ships available. Thing is, most of the ships that aren't already in ED were either unexciting or complete rubbish, at least in the assessment of the wiki authors. No reason why they couldn't be improved (within reason) for this game though I suppose.

They should totally bring back the Lynx Bulk Carrier though! If only for comedy value.

Yes I'd like to see the Krait, small, extremely agile, stupidly fast acceleration and top speed, difficult to detect, a boy-racer machine, but in space.

These are the people who say of the Anaconda "avoid it like a pack of angry Thargoids". So I'd treat their opinion with the same gravitas I'd give to a paid-for Amazon review.

I don't think there's too many gaps with the current ships. Some of the cargo ships are a bit weak though, I'd strengthen them as follows:

1. Increase the two class 3 slots on the Hauler bot the class 4 slots (but continue to fit have class 2 cargo bays only fit as standard, so it costs 60k to actually upgrade them). This will mean the Hauler will have more space than the Adder (but less slots) making it at least somewhat competitive with the Adder for hauling until the Cobra.
2. Either let the T7 land on a medium pad or have ship launched fighters and an extra crew member.
3. Upgrade the class 2 slot on the T9 to class 8 (giving it cargo comparable to the Cutter).

These buffs to the cargo ships will make them competitive to the general purpose ships. Then I think all that's needed is the Panther Clipper, a big cargo ship with at least 1200T of cargo (maybe more up to 1500T) so it easily out-trades the Cutter despite it's slower speed, and costs perhaps around the 300 mil mark.

The Panther Clipper would be the largest ship that could fit through the mail slot, if you want to go bigger, those ships will have to be serviced outside stations. Perhaps we could bring back the Lifter for that, a player controlled small cap ship being serviced by swarms of Lifters would be a sight to see.

Don't know how accurate this would be but maybe it'd be like a cheaper version of the python, considering its age. Just a thought.
