Bring back the spirit of Lave! A plea to Frontier about the new rare goods

Seems to me that the OP is trying to negate the Law of Diminishing Returns. That will cause infinite inflation which will totally nullify any benefit from larger profitssss.

Is the problem that the very wealthy can't become more wealthy fast enough, or that the predator has driven off all the prey?
Either way, I like trading rares (in an Asp with 70 cargo space) because I don't do it in a hurry and I don't stick to the same routes.

It's moot though, FDev is still scared blind of the profits players made with rares a year ago and will not do any positive change to them whatsoever.

Scared blind? how much were people making then? can't be anywhere NEAR the 30m/hr people were making bounty hunting in res sites.

I have no idea. I was a newbie back then.

Piracy can't be worthwhile at current cargo prices. The economics of it just don't make sense

Then let's add some cargo that sells for a lot, but players don't have to frontload the money to buy it.

I'm not invested in this discussion but this caught my eye. When were we making 30m/h bounty hunting in res? That's 500k every minute, nonstop.

People were using the hudson/arissa tier 5 bounuses to make that much money. it was... insane. all you really needed was a vulture, and a lucky res site spawn. i know they changed it, but you can still make crazy money there. it would basically always spawn the 250k clippers/pythons/anacondas. with the bonuses, the money just flew in.

What im saying, is that if people were allowed to make money even to half the amount of that now, why can't we at least revert the rares trading nerfs?

I don't quite agree with a system like this set up with only high-end players in mind.

Rare Trading was supposed to either help new players with small ships make good profit, or complement the cargo of veteran traders by adding to their standard freight. "Bulk Rare Trading" didn't become a thing until some credit-focused people, rather predictably, tried to maximise the already considerable profits in search of an ever greater grind, coming up with a set of routes that were promising several million credits each.

Now this should be incentivised especially for high-end players by making them (a) ridiculously profitable and (b) unavailable for others, just so that Commanders who are already filthy-rich can get even filthier-richer? Doesn't really sound like a good addition to the game to me, though obviously I'm biased due to not being a fan of the mindset.

Ah, I missed that on my break from the game.

But yeh, they changed it :) just like luxuries. And that was only about 10m/h max.

Grape is correct though, big money events make for big fun pvp. It's just not sustainable nor sensible for the game's long term health.

Then why are rares hidden from new players? The closest system with rares is 50 LY away from Eravate. That's not something new players are just gonna find on their own. Rare trading also requires an A-FSD, which in the early levels was more expensive than a better ship. A 3A FSD is half a million credits. That buys you a Cobra. Which needs 1.5 million credits for its A FSD.

FDev has to my knowledge never stated what the purpose of X was in this game, so we can at best guess. But new players, I very much doubt that.

It also certainly doesn't "complement" cargo of veteran traders, because no one in their right mind is going to travel 120 LY with a fully laden Anaconda or Type 7/9 just to get more profit out of those 10t of rares they picked up.

Also, economies in rare trading stations are notoriously bad (ie low supply low demand on everything). They're plain unattractive for bulk trading.

And last, trading a SINGLE commodity of rares certainly is not very profitable (after the nerf).

Hehe, guess why these places have been abandoned ?
It's because they had succumbed to being the complete Anarchy mudholes they were during their peak times :D

The "old worlds" have been the prime dark spot on the proverbial incompetence of the Alliance (or the systemic failure of any System Security concept in the entire Game).
They've been the core demonstrator of the insane imbalances of PvP Ganking (which typically hovers around 1:1000 and can easily reach far more ludicrous levels).
They've demonstrated what happens when rampant crime, abuse and terrorism goes entirely unpunished and uncountered by any means.
...and essentially, places like Lave have merely proven the long-predicted side-effects of letting this toxic chaos run along completely unattended.

During the peak times, you'd have to be completely crazy to run into them i.e. in a Type-7 or Type-9.
They had become zero-security NoGo areas. That's what happened.

Now they're deserted and the core reasons for that all happily remain in place to this date. Plus, alot of very good or better alternatives to make Credits have developed along the way.
I know my opinion isn't popular - but for all I care those Systems could all get sucked into a supermassive Black Hole or burn in a Supernova. They'd be absolutely no loss.
btw, that "spirit of Lave" you can still experience during some Community Goals at the right times. Once in a while they turn into similar meat-grinders.

PS.
I kinda liked Lave and Leesti nonetheless.
Everything that was wrong the Game in terms of cheats, exploits, abuse, loopholes, complete lack of balancing or complete lack of logical action & reaction mechanics... it was all there for everyone to see, all in one place.
Best place to test Shields against afterburner-ramming Orcas or pre-nerf Dumbfire Missiles I ever saw.

Disclaimer :
I actually visited the Lave cluster today to pick up some rares. Haven't done it in a very long time and just needed some stuff for a special occasion coming up.
It felt good to see these places dead and abandoned. That's exactly what they earned themselves - after all they worked very hard for their Reputation and I sure won't challenge the fruits of their hard work.

Man I am in agreement with so much here. Well said. Reminds me of old zones in other games that were once awesome and then ruined by either players or the game.. Southshore vs Tarren Mill in Wow back in the day. The first month of ESO campaign in Cyrodil. Perfectly said.

I think the low end markets and how they fluctuate could do with some balance. I find myself trading the same goods every time because they are always the most valid, even if they drop to low they are more profitable than many others.
There is no ebb and flow or, as far as I've seen, any real manipulations of markets which I would really like to see.

Back on topic:
Rares are called Rare for a reason...
Higher allocation only serves the richer to get richer.
If an opportunity to farm such an item was given then it will be farmed and to the detriment of the game so I says no.

As some have already suggested, when it comes to Open it's like shoot first, ask questions later and why piracy is just too much hard work.

Taking 10 tonnes of rares and trading from one side of the bubble to another with 90+ regular or smuggled items is not such a bad thing.
It's just a nice boost and adds a fair bit of risk to your game.

Nope. Increased alloaction stops them being rare.

Just allow more different rares to be created spread out accorss the galaxy and that will be fine, especially for collectors.
Yet a wing can (and do) fill up T-9s with rare goods, so they aren't rare at all.
I think rares have been over-nerfed, and that the mechanic for allocation is one of the stupidest things in the game - but other players like it that way.
.
But more rares, great. I'd be happy with one per station, they would still be rare.

I agree with making the Lave cluster feel "alive" again. Not sure if the Rares thing could be it, maybe we need another "hook" to keep players going back....
