Disclaimer: as we don't know yet how FD comms look like fully, take this proposal as passing time. I just needed this thought to get out. It could easily could be that FD have something like this in works already, or something alternative which makes this system obsolete. (fingers crossed).
Hi!
While waiting for seeing comms first time in action, I got some time to think about wildly discussed idea about not identifying players specially on radar. I won't get into debating other arguments, however I have several issues to solve on my own. Why these two things? Because some of arguments against showing no id is how we would interact with other players if we would have to query each blip on radar if we want specific help or something.
Easiest solution would be any form of broadcasting. However, according to DDF, there's no identified ways to broadcast something in system or even instance - FD might already have something in works, but still it's big unknown. What we have heard there won't be public chat, which is understandable and welcome decision. However, this leave question dangling - how do I broadcast my interest to communicate?
First what I though - what we usually want quickly? We usually need any sort of help. We discussed in another thread and preset of messages sound like good idea - after all, you won't broadcast short novel in instance, you just want ask/request assistance. Also help could be requested for various reasons - default could be emergency. Fuel out, life support out, attack, need protection - but not only. You could query everyone for quick support for your mission. I guess FD wants us to do that in station, but sometimes there could be no one around. After initial broadcast someone interested could query situation more, opening either text or voice comms.
Even with predefined text it still could be open to abuse. So maybe by default you don't listen to broadcast channel. After all, people willing to help would have to make choice to listen this channel.
TLDR: allow optional broadcast channel with predefined messages. People would opt in in this channel, as people willing to help would have to make this choice listen for "cries for help" deliberately.
edit: sorry about topic, of course it's "wide", not "wild"
