I finally got my mind in the right place to dip my toe in the exploration water. Tooled up an Asp not optimallly. for some reason I could not give up the two pulse lasers or an A3 shield. I didn't really know what I was doing or where I was going, so decided to head "straight out of the screen" as it were, in a flattish plane away from Sol.

I got to about 1550LY out this morning and then spent 2 and a half hours getting back.

My previous foray into exploration had got me to the lofty heights of 0% into Mostly Aimless, so I was interested to see what I would get from about 6 hours of generally scan the main star, discover everything in the system and then occasionally scan a planet that was less than 500ls from the star.

All in I made 1.2Mcr, had at least 20 "first discovereds" and am now 45% through Surveyor :)

My plan had been that once I turned back it would be scoop and run without any further scans to slow me down... It appears the bug has bitten though as I couldn't hold myself to that, hence the 3 hours to do 1.5KLY home!

Thanks all :) One question: is there any in-game record you can access for you first discoveries, or does it depend on you keeping your own records?

Not yet. But the data is being tracked "somewhere" as is attached to your CDMR's account, so perhaps in a future update we'll get access to it too. I haven't heard of FD going on record yet with any promises though.

The universe is more than 99.999% empty space, including our own bodies. All physical things are made of atoms which are mostly empty space. If the nucleus was the size of a marble, the electrons would be specks of dust a half mile away. Every physical thing has that much empty space in it. Inside that empty space is intelligence and frequency.
