Hello.

I've just got myself friendly with the Alliance, and now Mr Turner has asked for 50t bromellite.

I was lucky enough to spot eight tonnes as a reward. Still need 42t though.

How reliable a method is mining in icy rings for this stuff? Been a long time.

Cool, i was wondering the same, after i got his invite - so i'm interested in an answer aswell :)

Off topic a bit, but, all the raw mats in game are ingredients that some say are found in 'supposed' alien implants.
I think thats a cool little thing in game.

I typically mine brom for my friends in a cutter out at Delkar. It takes an hour or so, depending on luck of the draw. With all the new quest rewards it might be faster to get it that way. If you need a hand and play on xbox, I can help out. If not, Delkar has what you need, and all pristine.

My strategy for mining (little outdated, but should still work) is to drop into a pristine ring haz res. Immediately fly about 20km towards the planet at full boost. Stop and chill for a few minutes while all the pirates chase you down and scan you. Laugh as they fly all the way back to the nav point and mine your little heart out. Oh, and don't bring any cargo but limpets, obviously.

If you are on xbox, my tag here is also my gamertag. Just message.

I have done a fair bit of mining here recently for missions. Unlocking Selene post 3.0 was my first foray into mining actually. My experience with Bromellite has been for missions and not Turner, but getting 42 tons of it shouldn't be all that bad. Couple hours tops. If money and a bit of engineering isn't an issue for you, I have found a shield tanked Python with two medium mining lasers, a large beam laser, and two large multi canons, with a couple point defense turrets to be pretty good for targeted mining while being able to handle pirates AspX and smaller with ease.

A few general observations I have made...there was no appreciable difference in drop rates or concentrations between the HiRes and HazRes sites I went to, though the HiRes had far fewer meddling pirates. The 20 km drop in concentrations is still there. Closer than 20km is far more lucrative than beyond 20. So the whole hang between 15 and 20 to get the high drop rate, but minimize pirating is still in full force. I found Kamito 9 particularly good because it is Icy Pristine in a High Security system and has a HiRes. I was able to stay in there for a couple of hours before running out of limpets with a full hold of 176 tons of stuff including 24 tons of Low Temp Diamonds.

I mined my 50t, not to long ago. It took a few hours, in a pristine ice ring.

I had to restock limpets a few times to get to 50, because I was using a sub optimal Clipper. You can probably make 42 i one go, if you take a more optimized miner than I did.

The technique that worked best for me was to shoot the ice block to drop two fragments. If any of them had Bromelite, I prospected. If not, I moved to the next.

It honestly depends on distance. Once you can clear the pirates, you can creep back to the 15-20 km range and just mine for the max fragment drop without pirate issue. Hi res has same frag drop as haz, but the yields and quality suffer. Also, prospector limpets. Always use prospector limpets lol.

Mostly depends on the cargo capacity. Don't use the clipper, so can't say there. New type 9 would be a beast with its now massive hold.

See, I had read this over and over, but am wondering if something has now changed, or I just hit some sort of statistical aberration. Last night, I was running Osmium missions, and had to bug out of a Haz Res Pristine Metallic when a Clipper and two Vipers jumped me at 18km out. Made it back to my home system no problems, but was 12 tons short of finishing my mission stack. Since it was only 12 tons, rather than trek the 80 light years back, I decided to pop into a ring right there in my home system. Metallic Major HiRes. Holy crap! Got my Osmium in no time. In two hours, I ended up pulling about 50 tons of Osmium to dump on other missions, but also found several roids with 30%+ platinum, and even found a 40%+ painite. I actually had more painite in the end than Osmium. Remember, this was in Metallic Major HiRes. I did have one AspX demand some cargo, but my large beam and two large multi's made pretty quick work of them.

In 3.0, this was dropping in abundance as a mission reward (typically 28-40 tons) choice for all sort of missions. I thought it, like Modular Terminals, was still dropping in abundance in 3.0.3 - unlike the now missing Neofabric Insulation, Microweave Cooling Hoses, and Articulation Motors. Are you unable to find it as a mission reward? Do we need it to the MIA list? Or do you just prefer to mine it.

Back when I unlocked Bill, I mined it all somewhere - sadly, that was about a year ago and I don't remember where it was.

Whole game is a statistical abberation lol. Sometimes I can find great yields just ring mining, but in terms of what drops and how much, haz res has more than marginal increase over other res sites. Doesn't mean it is better for you every time, just averages out to be better.

For Brom, head to the nearest Pristine Icy Ring with a HighRES or HazRES in a reasonably fast Mining Ship.

- search 15-20km away from the RES center, where the NPC density is very low to non-existent
- once a 20-25% Brom Asteroid is found, there's approx. 10tons for you
- repeat until full with the needed Brom or if the need arises to egress (NPCs pop up and Scan)

Icy Mining outside a High/HazRES takes forever - and then some. Yields are pathetic as is, but outside of a RES they're abysmal when it comes to gaining any reasonable tonnage.

I have done ring mining for bromm, just takes a fair bit longer. If you use a type9 or a cutter, sure its easy. Just a LOT of speed prospecting.

I decided to go for bill today to try out PA's for a change. Took me about maybe an hour to an hour thirty to mine the 50t in my Python in delkar

Thank you guys. I should have added the detail that I wasn't sure how it compared to say, finding LTDs.

Looks like I'm going mining today then, cheers.

Do you already have the permit to Alioth? If not, you won't be able to get in until FDev fixes the permit system. Nearest Pristine Icy Ring ring to you is LHS 2522's 6th planet, B Ring. I just filled up a Type 7 with with 50 tons of Bromellite there and it didn't take long. Just bring plenty of limpets and a prospector that can fire off 2-3 of 'em (supported by a collector that can do the same) and keep your eyes peeled for asteroids yielding Bromellite in the first slot, or second with a percentage matching the first slot and it'll go pretty quick.

Oh I'm aware of the permit issue, though luckily, I already have access.

It's reliable. It's a fairly common find, just tedious as very few other resources ice-mined are particularly valuable. Low Temp Diamonds are only slightly less rare than bug-free Frontier updates.

Crystal Meth is fairly valuable, as mining missions often want it, but you may not make a sufficient quantity to satisify one before you max out on Bromellite.

As long as you aren't anti-mining, you'll be fine.
