Buff Imperial Clipper - maybe a figher bay?

It's a large nice, and I get that legacy players think the cobra is iconic, but to me, I think these gutamaya ships are much more appealing. But the clipper, the one that is attainable and desirable, is kind of a limp .

Another large hard point on the roof maybe?

Strong shields suitable for a entry level flagship class? Shields are kind of wimpy.

A fighter bay? This is the one that really bugs me. Why does a tiny little gunship get TWO fighters? Clipper is physically much larger, even dismissing the wings, the body is bigger than a FGS.

I'm sure people will say it's balanced because of it's speed and handling, but I think even still it is weaker than is justified.

Maybe a figher bay would be too much. But in my return to the game I have to say I was really disappointed to see how few ships got fighter bays added in. At first I felt like it made sense for it to be limited to larger ships that are less maneouverable, but then I saw this picture of how small a FGS and keel back really are, and I thought, why not the clipper?

The Clipper will get a Hangar bay when a Python can boost 600 and gets a hangar bay.

Or when the Gunship can boost 600 and carry 200 tonnes of cargo with a hangar bay.

No way. It's a large-pad ship with a starting speed of 300 m/s. It overtakes everything in a straight line but a Viper Mk III, an Imperial Eagle, and an Orca. Wanna be pirates in a Clipper don't need yet more advantages.

Like everything else on the Clipper, it's physical model can't accommodate things.
It's physically too big for a medium pad, and too small for the hangar bay doors.

It's the ultimate in pointless design. Lol

Hello, Crumly. :)

Another day, another buff-the-Imperial-Clipper thread. When I can get the damn machine to work, I'm mostly running around in one, these days. I quite enjoy it, it's fast and I can certainly get things done with it, but...

I don't know, it was always something of a style-over-substance vessel, but these days, it really is starting to feel uncomfortably vapid. Comparing it with the Asp - my other main ship - I'd be lying if I said I thought it was the better ship.

I mean, look at the thing. It's absolutely bloody gigantic, costs a stupid fortune to buy and upgrade (considering it's general weakness), delivers only modest improvements as a trader, fails comically as an explorer and is surprisingly weak as a fighter. It's beautiful, fast, somewhat manoeuvrable and has the one extra Optional slot, but that's literally all the improvement I've found in it, for all that crazy money and extra inconvenience.

Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy flying around in the thing - it certainly seems like one of the more flyable large ships - but not a ship that feels like a good return for my time and credit investment. It's great fun, paid for with great weakness. I don't know what kind of a buff might be best to consider, but any improvement would definitely be most welcome.

Crudely chop-&-pasted image showing the seven sizes of ship in ED. All credit to Janichsan for his rather more impressive original image.

...and make it 50 million CR.

...and make it 50 million CR.

Hell, I'd pay 50m credits for it for improvements. The credit difference isn't the issue for me personally.

The issue for me, is that now that they've introduced the Cutter, it really doesn't have ANY comparable value to the Python or any ship that can land on a medium pad. Now it's just a "stepping stone" rank grind ship that you're not going to use very often.

Go ahead. Raise the purchase amount, and give me an Imperial ship that can land on Medium pads that rivals the Python.

This would be great if it were to scale.

It is to scale. It's derived from the latest version of Janichsan's excellent ship comparison image, as linked in my previous post. I've quickly and crudely rearranged them side-by-side, but not rescaled them at all.

I'm not about to cross-check all thirty-five ships, but looking quickly at half a dozen of them, the measurements of the images correspond with reasonable accuracy to the measurements given next to them and with the scale given, all of which can be seen on Janichsan's original chart. The measurements listed mostly correspond in turn to the measurements given in the wiki, allowing for rounding off to the nearest meter. The only exception I noticed is the Beluga, which gives a different figure for height, which you can't see on the 2D chart anyway.

If you believe the wiki entries contains errors, you're free to correct them at your leisure, since it's a wiki. If you believe Janichsan's image contains errors, I'm sure he won't mind if you contact him with your evidence, via the link previously given.

I like blasting Clippers in a Res with my Vette or Conda, because they think they're so pretty

Why do you say it's too small for hangar bay doors?
The gun ship has TWO

One mans trash is another mans treasure...

If you’re into bulk transport and you compare it to the Type 7 the Clipper begins to make more sense. For just 5m credits more you’re getting a ship that can move comparable loads with great speed and handling. A Type7 has shielding issues while a Clipper can drop to a 3A and still turn around and give npc pirates in Cobra/Viper class ships a headache if it chooses to.

A Cobra has bad shields but it’s forgiven because of its ability to carry good loads to destinations quickly and safely and it’s good to look at and fun to fly. So is the Clipper.
