Buff Manticore Oppressor (Auto Plasma Rifle)

Request is to buff the above rifle. It's a really cool design, but it's damage is very, very low. Please buff damage per shot by maybe ~2-3x.

Totally agree that the Oppressor is badly in need of a buff, but I believe a 2-3x damage increase is a bit too much. Let's put that damage increase into the Weapon Calculator I created in this thread:


The target assumed for all graphs is a stationary G5 non-Engineered Dominator suit.

Base Oppressor Damage at 0 meters:

Very quickly the Oppressor goes from underpowered to stepping on the toes of the Executioner with such a large damage increase. I suggest a more moderate 20% increase at most, in addition to doubling the Oppressor's projectile velocity. The effects of both changes are shown in the graphs below:

I suggest these changes because the Oppressor actually outperforms the AR-50 and Aphelion at Grade 5 / no mods on a stationary target. In my view, its problem isn't really a lack of damage, but rather consistently applying that damage because of that abysmally slow 75 m/s projectile velocity. This compounds with a severe issue with how Odyssey handles Aim Assist:



TLDR: Odyssey's Aim Assist pulls your rounds to where the target was instead of where it is going.

It appears as though it only considers the case of a hitscan projectile (lasers like the Aphelion and Eclipse). This makes leading moving targets with projectile weapons much more difficult than it should be, especially with the Manticore lineup.

...Oh and it also gets confused when targets are right on top of one another. I've been seeing plenty of that with some Aphelion tests lately.

But yes - Oppressor buff plz! :D
 
It doesn't need a DPS increase. It needs a shot speed increase.
It's actually fine for it to do slightly less damage than its thermal/kinetic equivalents - the problem is that it has the lower damage and the slow shot speed.
The tormentor has more on-paper DPS than either of the assault rifles, but the high opportunity cost of missing a shot makes the rifles more practical. The oppressor has this cost without the benefit.

More "Plasma repeater", less "really weedy plasma accelerator"

I am completely out of my league here lol.
 
I tend to agree with CMDR The Riz: The damage is not the problem, consistently applying the DPS is. I stubbornly use that weapon in CZs and it does fine at close ranges, though the Intimitator would do much better. At medium ranges it sometimes works when I catch the enemies in some narrow staircase, but usually it's subpar.

I think medium range should be its niche at least as the Manticore line goes. Get rid of the aim assist and increase shot speed.

If anything the lazors should need an improvement
Depends on the circumstance. Lasers are really good at stripping shields. Against normal scavs who usually don't have much armor they are pretty deadly. I wouldn't use one in a CZ though. I'd like the Aphelion to have a few more shots in the clip if anything.
 
The main problem of plasma guns is a slow projectile speed. Increacing by 50% will fix all complaints. No need to buff damage etc.
