Morning all!

I've finally cracked and decided to have a play with Buffet. or the Big Universal Frontier First Encounters Trainer.

I've read the readme file and followed the instructions inside but the seems to be no changes made to the ship in FFE.

The instructions are:

How to use it:
==============
First, make sure Frontier First Encounters and JJFFE are installed correctly.

1. Unzip this archive somewhere. Your FIRSTENC folder would be a good place, but it doesn't matter.

2. Run 'BUFFET.EXE'. If JJFFE is running already, the program will start to search for the cheat offset. Don't quit JJFFE while this is happening. If JJFFE is not running, the program will ask you where to find the JJFFE executable and will then run it and find the offset.

3. That's about it. Once the cheat offset is found and everything is ok, a file named 'BUFFET.CFG' will be created wherever BUFFET is installed. Don't mess with it. It just contains 4 lines: 1 - The location of the JJFFE executable, 2 - The size of the exe, 3 - The cheat offset, and 4 - whether it is an Aniso-mod exe.

I've looked in the buffet.cfg file which has the following info.

C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE
1033216
34922763
0

The problem is the JJFFE .exe is not on my C: drive but in F:\FFE. Also, the program seems to think the FFE exe file is actually explorer.exe. I've changed the 1st line to F:FFE and saved it but it keeps reverting to C:\WINDOS\Explorer.EXE.

I've "tweaked a couple of settings and had FFE running at the same time but can't see any changes!

Am i just having a Friday morning feeling and missing the blindingly obvious?

Cheers for any help

I don't know if this will be any help, but a lot of people seem to think that they make the changes outside FFE and then quit buffet.
What you should do is keep buffet open as you are playing, as it makes live changes to the data.

Or perhaps this isn't your problem.

I assumed you would start FFE then buffet. When you make changes in buffet, it would write to the FFE executable to amend the game somehow.

Do you mean as you are playing buffet will make the changes to the game you are playing? ie create a new save.

It doesn't edit your save game files. It changes the game data live.
Run buffet, boot FFE, load up a commander, then alt-tab out and change whatever you want. When you switch back to FFE you will see the changes.

Spot on there. Load FFE, then load BUFFET. Load up your commander save (doesn't matter if you do this before loading BUFFET) and once that's running, use BUFFET to edit the in-game data. Keep BUFFET open after you've made the changes though.
