[Bug?] Dumb Dinos constantly losing comfort in (very) large 'enclosures'

Hello all,

I enclose my visitors instead of the dinos like seen in Jurassic Park. Therefore the dinos basically have the complete island to discover. Instead, they stay near Feeders and Water, which is somewhat logical. But herbivore Feeders are not logical in the first place. Regardless, to counter them getting together near a single Feeder, I placed many Feeders and Water apart from each other in both grasslandy and foresty areas, covering the whole Island. But that brings many problems:

A. Solitude / low population seeking dinos get uncomfortable by idiotically staying with all other dinos near the Feeders and water (affects Ankylosaurus !!! / Triceratops / Torosaurus etc.), instead of only visiting them for food and water and then leaving for the many solitude areas on the whole island.

B. Same species dinos idiotically dont move in herds and randomly spread out to different Feeders and water, therefore losing social needs and going rampage because there are no other relatives nearby E.g. I had 4 Maiasaurus that all spread out to different Feeders, all losing social needs than all going rampage towards my visitors. Comically, they attacked the same spot and attacked together as a herd.

C. Forest seeking dinos dont seek the many foresty areas aound the island. Instead of moving to one of my forest perimeter Feeders they randomly move to a grassland Feeder and then go on a rampage because they dont have a forest near them. The same applies to grassland seeking dinos that randomly go to a forest Feeder. It also applies to water seeking dinos that go to a land-based Feeder and land-based dinos going to a water-based Feeder.

What I want to say is that dinos dont actively seek alternative locations that are more suited to their needs, even if they have plenty of options. But that does not make sense. A solitude seeking dino will naturally / 100% move away from other dinos if he has the chance, a forest (etc.) seeking dino wil go to foresty areas, dinos can shout and will naturally / 100% move in herds etc. But the dinos in JWE are all very dumb and that kills the immersion for me. Plus the Velociraptor destroying a heavy steel fence in a few hits. I have to constantly tranquilize the dinos and move them to their relatives, move them to solitary Feeders, move them to forests, only to see them randomly going back to uncomfortable areas and going on a rampage again afterwards. The speed at which they lose comfort is astronomical, there is no visible information about problem-dinos.

This 'Bug' also applies to larger enclosures E.g. the second island has two seperated enclosures stock. If you combine these two enclusures, there is a high chance that dinos will lose contact to their relatives on the other end of the elongated enclosure and go on a rampage after they quickly lose all their social needs.

In the below picture, I started with 2 measly Feeders apart from each other. The distance is enough for all my Maiasaurus and Parasauropholus to constantly lose their social needs and go on a rampage. The two Dracorex I breeded have also lost each other and additionally lose comfort because there are too many dinos nearby. They have the damn whole part right of the picture availiable for their solitude needs.

Some great observations OP. Have you tried -- just to see what would happen -- adding a Dilophosaurus or two to the paddock, might that stir the herbivores up a bit? (Do not add Ceratosaurus though, they're evil on a stick). May be a bit artificial to add a mini-predator but it's a problem with free roaming dinosaurs, they can always freely roam to somewhere you don't want them to be!

I guess there a couple of things Frontier could do to improve, solitary dinos that move away from other dinos or a manual set up of a territory, that you might assign to a matriarch female for dinosaurs to herd to. I think these do count as advanced systems though (because they might have drawbacks too) and I remember having totally similar problems back in JPOG.

Repped for being a dino behavioural scientist.

The needs of dinosaur are only satisfied in a circular aura around them. When they go into a corner where there's only forest, they will go on a rampage. So basically you cannot have large exhibits without them loosing out on social, grassland or forest.

Especially social. If they wander away from eachother too far then they'll rampage. If herding was in the game, it would solve it. Or even make the "needs" account for the exhibit they are in, not only the small area around them.

The game is designed to enclose dinosaurs and build them their "perfect" habitat to fullfill their needs. It's obviously not designed for going the other way around and letting them do what they want and seek their own perfect spot to live at.

The Game is about building your OWN Jurassic World... so seriously you should be able for example to build your own version of gallilimus valley from the film. It is not San Diego Jurassic Park zoo version imp.

You do realize that Jurassic world plays on isla nublar where the dinos broke out years ago and had a loooong time to find their territories and balance with each other ? Things like that take time, you can't expect it to work by just releasing a bunch of different animals in a large area and they all magically know where their perfect area to live at is located.
They didn't build that in the movie, they took what developed itself over years and made an open park out of it

Very well research done OP. I'm afraid the developers were more focused on possibilities to get the dinos angry and make them breaking out than polishing there natural and logical behavior. But i really agree with you that the points you listed should be implemented. and i think that can be possible without removing the reasons for the dinos to break out.

Is it a bug or is it as designed? Seems to me it was designed around smaller enclosures, with some needing more space than others. Of course, this is without herding being a thing. Herding would likely automatically increase the size of enclosures you could go with, though some dinos aren't going to like large populations anyway. I keep enclosures as small as I can get away with so as to keep their visibility high for guests and have plenty of room for other needs. I feel it keeps the populations more manageable as well, making it easier to incubate more as they die.

thats a shame it puts what i was going to do out te window i was going to do a free roam on the sandbox island where all my dinos are free now i am gona have to do a semi free roam enclosures basicaly very large enclosures made for certain dinos like a forest with some open areas and water lol and others hope they add better hearding or something to make that better.

hello,

I dont have the game yet (kinda waiting to see if steam summer sale makes anything happen :) ) but to me these problems seem realy big :(

looks like both guest AI and Dino AI need some serious work before im able to make the park I want to make, because like you I also would love to make more of a free roaming safari park than a zoo thing with all small enclosure's :(

If they fix both Dino and Guest AI before the summer sale I might even dare to shell out the full 60 euro :)

come on frontier , you can do it, I dare you to make me give ya full price :)

I wouldn't expect the game to be included in the Steam summer sale since it was just released. It would be just a few weeks before the sale starts.

I'm having the same dang issue. Made a huge enclosure for my Raptors and carnitas. To live in things went great for a few mins then the Raptors started breaking out. Had to watch them for a bit to figure out why but yea. It seems they run off to different ends social level drops below comfort range and then they attack fences.

On a more interesting note, I swear these Raptors scope out where they want to break out. They seem to go to the same spot often. Also caught one following a large group of guests outside the fence. Probably coincidence but couldn't help but ask if these things are actually stalking the guests and plotting how to escape to eat them.

you could try look at the maximum nummber of there own kind they can be in a pen with example gallimimus can be put in with 18 other gallimimus you could see if filling it with the max nummber of other raptors witch i think mite be the same as ther counterpart at limit of 8 of them dont know you will need to look you could try that see if it works.
