[BUG] (esp. after V2.3) Station calling should be ship callsign NOT player

This was always a bad choice even before 2.3.

Right now when approaching stations, they call out using the ship vendor (ok) and three first letters of user name!
Which doesn't make sense at all (esp. for some user names).

Now that ship names and ship callsigns are supported, this should use the ship call-sign properly. Even if you need to call out just three letters (although the complete 5-6 letter string is realistic too), still the ship callshign has a better chance to mean something.

(btw I have the strange feeling that admins/devs don't really see our feedback after all - as it looks from existing threads in this section)

Sandro mentioned exploring and supporting this at some point in the future from a question during a livestream shortly after 2.3 came out.

Well it is just wrong as it is now.
"Exploring this" like it is something complicated to do (read another string instead of the one they used to read) is a bit funny.

It's not a bug, it's working exactly as it did before. It should, ideally, be switched to the callsign we have available now, but that is another matter which they are already looking at.

it should be the SHIP ID which contains the first 3 letters of your name. NOT the ship name they use. if two ships have the same name (for example spirit of discovery is my asp ex. what if soemone else in system has a ship called spirit world? we have same first 3/5 chars!). ship id is more unique.

No, because I like to use some ship ID fields to add organizational insignia, like "NAVY" or "IXFOR" (Imperial Expeditionary Forces) to my ships.

What should be done is a new field on either the livery or Holo-Me page allowing one to choose any 3-or-less letters/ numbers callsign they wish, and let the tower call that string.

Then I could be simply Two Charlie, as intended.

ship id should be unchangeable by players. having a callsign id would work then you could prefix the ship in the callsign. but if you are in a fighter you are more likely to be called a name in the way fighter pilots do, such as spade, or maverick, or bronco.
i named my FAS 'FAS Gunzburg' that takes care of the fact im petty officer in the federal navy auxiliary and that its my 'official' federal ship. the ship ID i leave unchanged but i think we do need another one for either a callsign (and obviously need to find a space for another nameplate on ships for it, or bigger nameplates or stencils). that way you can pick your callsign in there OR put the naval registry ID if its an auxiliary military ship such as yours or my FAS.

what im wondering is, if you have a ship such as imperial or federal ships you need rank for, the ship ID should be a naval auxiliary version, whereas my asp should have the current civilian type id number.and instead of mentioning the manufacturer, they could find a short code such as Alpha Sierra Papa Echo Xray (numbers) Yankee Oscar delta) would be the full id that they might use. it might be a bit too long but i think it might still work. and if you have a naval federal ship they would say Navy Auxiliary Assault ship yankee oscar delta'

OR they could have short ship types so for the FAS they SAY 'F. A. S. yankee oscar delta (numbers) where it stands not for federal assault ship, but federal auxiliary ship. whereas for my Asp it would be Asp-EX yankee oscar delta. my cobra mk iii becomes 'Cobra 3 yankee oscar delta' cobra mk iv is cobra 4. my Fer de lance would have to be FDL yankee oscar delta.

in an ideal world the system could have them able to call the ship name or the id or the military id depending on which is shorter. but they would need people employed full time just to add voice and the game would bloat until it was terabytes

All good ideas. What is certain, is that it is not as it should be.

Also there a thing called text to speech Yoda. Which is pretty ok in 2017.
