[BUG] Getting attacked does not give aggressor wanted status

So I just stopped of at a USS and scanned the NPC and he was "Clean". However he then proceeded to shoot me and I of course retaliated getting shooting fines and wanted status. Something is wrong here...

I had no fines, no wanted status ANYWHERE. The only thing that I can figure is since I was looking for my assasination mission target there could be some mission bug, but even then I should not be fined for protecting myself.

Just need to stick in a ticket and pay off your 300cr bounty then unfortunately. Just dont dock at the local big station and you shouldn't get shot by the policia.

Good point! I've been dragged out of SC by a clean NPC - He shoots me - So I kick his butt - No Bounty? Happens every time, never thought about it before... Surly if I'm dragged out of SC and attacked I should get bounty?

happened to me too a couple hours ago

I saw player interdicting another player and jumped in after them

I scanned the already wanted player with a Warrent scanner and checked the bounty, which was on 30,000

I then attacked the wanted player, getting a fine and destroyed him, giving myself a bounty

However I interdicted another player a little later and followed the same steps but didn't get a fine so it seems pretty random

I believe that it is still a crime in, say, Fed space to shoot someone who is not wanted in Fed space, even if they have a bounty that you have found through the KWS in another jurisdiction.

If you don't report crimes, then of *course* the target never changed to Wanted. It's not a bug at all.

But I should still get fined for fighting back right? Guy attacks me, I retaliate, he reports my "crimes" and I get screwed. Yeah no bug at all.

Correct, if you do not report the crime, they do not change to wanted status.
Pretty simple to grasp.

Of course you get fined, you shot a clean player... You didn't report the crime, so - yeah, not sure why you're confused.

He attacked you, but you didn't report it => no crime => clean. You attacked a clean ship => crime. Not a bug. This has been verified by Sandro, incidentally.

Yes. Report crimes was off.

I was in a federal system. I do have unfriendly status with the feds unfortunately, but strangely enough I got a rep increase after the kill. Go figure.

you killed a pirate , they like that thus you get rep.
crime report was off so no bug.
all you got to do now is ask a mod to close the tread.

I guess my problem is not with the wanted status per se, but with the retaliation mechanic. Reporting crimes option I turn off while bounty hunting to not get federal ships in my way while I'm blasting away. Whatever it was set, my retaliating should not be considered a crime.

The problem is that I was attacked and somehow I ended up being the criminal. It's pretty easy to grasp IRL: Somebody attacks you, you have to call 911 and report it while you're getting your face beat in before you can defend yourself. That's why it doesn't make any sense. If this is by design then that's really poor design.
