Description
I was visiting HIP 17862 6 C A trying to gather some Sensor Fragments for Prof. Palin.
Some fragments on the surface can be scooped up without issue, many of the sensor fragments from the canisters simply fall through the surface mesh the moment when they spawn after the canister is shot up, or spawning below the mesh and hence "fall down". More than half fall all the way out of the world and are lost.

Observed:
The collision mesh is separated from the surface mesh, and materials can fall through the surface out of range.

Impact:
1) Difficult progress: Difficult to gather the needed materials. I ended up having to re-log several times because there was no way of "catching" the falling materials.

2) Player experience/thematic impact: It took me very much out of the immersion and lengthened the gathering process immensely.

Steps to Reproduce
Repro steps:
1) Go to HIP 17403 A 4 A at the coordinates -34.98, -141.30.
2) Land and take a rover to the middle of the crashed Thargoid-ship, park between the three canisters.
3) Target and shoot the sensor canisters.
4) Observe them "falling through" the surface mesh into oblivion'; or spawning below the mesh, hence directly falling to the planets core or whereever.

No problem was found with driving over the spot where the canisters where before destroying them.

I've run into this before, and again last night. You feel like your a submarine! When it's happened to me, it was just another SRV run. Nothing special about the location. I think it's more related to a glitch in the game than in the location you were in. Last night I made it back to my ship and boarded. Then I got completely out of the game and restarted. I haven't had that problem since, though I have been having problems with poor server response today.

No, it is a regular occurrence at this particular site. It's been fixed previously, but always seems to come back.
As for getting another fix, I doubt it's high priority. Immersion breaking, yes, game breaking, no.
I doubt many people revisit this site once they've grabbed what they need.

OP - you do know that this is a place devoid of F D? Only us players infest this forum. ;) - You need to make bug reports via the issue tracker site.

Ah man, and here I thought "where the heck is the Bug-Report section in this official forum?" ...

Thanks for the advice mate :)

Think yourself lucky. ;) My SRV fell through the mesh once. Fell to the centre of the moon and past. Then came back up then down... until I logged off.
I took some "time Vs distance to my ship" readings. S does equal u*t + 0.5a*t^2 in Elite. :D

Try deleting the gputable file, means that the next game boot will take a while, but can fix problems like this.

Similarly, make sure your graphics drivers are up to date.
