Bug or intended feature? replacing existing modules with ones at dsicount prices

I wanted to reduce my re-buy cost so visited a system with reduced module prices. However, when I sell my existing modules but then can not buy new ones at the discount as I found them to be missing from the main list (only my existing modules listed at full price for buy back). OK, I got round this by going for a short trip having sold a load of critical systems and bought temporary cheap modules, but it seems a bit daft to have to work around the mechanics of the game like this to achieve something that is not an exploit.

I feel this is probably a mistake by FD but maybe it is intended?

Opinions?

It's a feature - to allow players to swap modules between ships, we can sell them and then change ship and buy the modules we just sold back again (if we want to). I believe that the unintended consequence is that we cannot simply sell a full price module and buy a discounted direct replacement.

What the moderator said :D

2 ways to get around:
1) Wait 10 minutes for the stock to refresh
2) Downgrade to B class at the nearest station and go for the straight upgrade when you get there.

Indeed - you should sell the module at another station first - you can replace it with something one step lower (or higher!) than you actually want, then go to the discounted station, sell the unwanted module, then buy the original at the discounted price...

Sounds like what we would call a "feature" at work. I.e. something that was not intended but we have no intention of fixing!

Thanks all, the idea of sell before you get there would be quicker than what I did :)
