Bug or possibiity?

Hi all, just a quick question. I've been gringing in the community goals in my anaconda for a fair few hours and was blow up with 86% hull, which cost me about 14 mil. Had ~ 150 kills with around 6 mil in bounties. Shield dropped, nothing appeared to be of immediate risk, but my shields dropped and all of a sudden the ship just blew up. I know i had lost my shields but suerly the hull would have gone down gradually from 86%. I'm guessing even a heavy hitter would have done some incremental damage. Is this a possibility, or could this be a bug? Also will the kills go towards my rank?

Either a lucky npc popped your power plant or a cmdr did. If your in open and your shields drop, good luck son. Sorry for your loss. Remember, armour won't help your systems!

was in solo so im guessing lucky NPC. Didnt even notice anyone shooting at me

Certainly possible. Big gun hit(s) to your powerplant perhaps. What did the death message ("your ship has been destroyed by <thing>") say?
