Bug or what?

So, today I went Bounty Hunting in the Empire System, did so before and all was well, only thing that changed from before to now is that I got Outsider Rank.

Went to Navi Beacon and at first everything went well, until I engaged a wanted NPC, the Moment I Killed him i got his Bounty, but also got a Bounty of 5k for killing said Pirate in the Empire System.

How is that even possible, I scanned him first he was wanted, did not get a bounty for shooting him at first and then I get one for killing him? Only possible explanation for me ist that thats a bug, which is really nice, since I spend the last days grinding Reputation in Empire Systems, just to make it impossible for me to visit them for 5 Days.

So my Question did this happen to someone else, and if it did, is there something I am missing?

It does sound like a bug, so ticket it. Remember also that the bounty is given by a minor faction, so you will only be wanted in that one system, and can bounty hunt in any other Empire system you wish. If that minor faction's influence continues into a second system you will know that by the wanted notice in your hub, but chances are it's just the one system.

Well, gonna ticket it then, and yeah just sad that I have to leave a good Trade Route behind because of this stupid Bug. Was the first Route I personally found (give me a break only playing for 2 Weeks) and now I have to leave it but oh well.

If you didn't also get a 400 or so credit assault bounty when you first shot the target then it is very likely a bug, and hopefully support will be able to clear your wanted status.

In the event they do not / cannot, it's worth checking in the galaxy map to see whether you are even wanted in the station where you do your trading, as if it's controlled by a different faction, you won't be. You will still be wanted as you fly through the system, but if you are clean at that station, as soon as you drop out of SC by it you will be clean. Definitely worth a look, these bounties are very granular.
