Horizons Bug-out Ship?

Hello All,

I was wondering if there is anyone else that feels the impending chaos/doom be it from the superpowers annihilating themselves or perhaps our elusive aliens finally busting up this bubble we scurry around in or perhaps something new we haven't thought of yet. It sure seems to me that we are being steered in a direction of ship preparation for something other than just blasting each other. Of course, I could be totally wrong about all of this but it is fun to entertain such notions.

I, for one, feel it coming. With this in mind I have started to build my "bug-out" ship. Taking my trade cutter and equipping it with all the necessary modules to get out of dodge and yet be able to defend/attack if needed. Doomsday prepping has for me brought new life into my cutter and given it a less boring purpose. Still deciding on which modules and load-out to install to get the most from this ship and which engineering magic I should focus on. Now that making credits is no longer of interest, having a sinfully absurd amount, my focus is now to have a ship that is capable of traveling the galaxy, taking care of business if pushed, and satisfying to fly for a long time if necessary. The addition of a fighter bay will round out any build nicely when that becomes available. Lots of testing of different configurations is still ongoing but I'm having a blast doing it.

If there is interest in this topic I will be happy to share different ship builds and ideas.

Anyone else getting the sense of FD about to drop a bomb on space as we have know it? Or am I just being a freak? LOL... :D

Interesting perspective on things!

I'm at the point of whether to change from the AspX to a Python or not. I'd have enough for the ship and insurance, but not to really do anything with it for a short while until I had done some more trading or something.

With the absolute uncertainty in the upcoming things, the escape plan isn't really unreasonable at all.
Maybe we all should have a getaway ship ready somewhere on the outskirts of the bubble. Preferably towards the centre and a very conveniently growing new bubble. :)

Time to oust the space mice from my Orca's engines, perhaps.

Frontier has been catering to a low-skill low-adaptability playerbase for two years, I can't see them doing a U-turn and requiring us to start thinking about contingency plans now.

Now that's an idea, get the hell out of dodge ship. While I agree with the OP that the main bubble might just pop soon, and have even said as much both on these forums and other places like twitch, I haven't actually been planning to high tail it of Colonia. Kinda want to fight it for a bit then run if I know I can't survive here.

That said, now that this thread has put it in my head, I might actually plan to build a ship that's more or less a combat explorer and have it waiting for me on the edge of the bubble. What ship though? Not something built just for pure jump range like the Asp. I need to feel like I can fight in the thing. Python maybe?

But yeah OP, right there with you. The bubble might be about to burn. Thanks for giving me the idea to have an escape plan ready. Rep +1

So....two things, first skepticism, how would a burning bubble work with newer players running only the smallest ships? Trying to migrate away from our bubble to the new one in a dinky little Sidey with only the funds to find an E class fuel scoop is kinda nightmare material.

Second is....holy crap, the end is near! The end is near! I have enough cash to afford a bigger ship, but mostly I have a fleet of small vessels. Proved wise when 2.1 hit and I made out pretty well during the 3-Day Weekend Massacre. But now if the economy is about to be ravaged...imagine a day when newer players look on those with Anacondas the way I do on the early backers with Cobra Mk. 4s, "Ah, an old timer, wish I could buy one of those...."

Similar thoughts have crossed my mind as well. I have been trying to enlarge my capital to 10 figures now that my ships are pretty much built out to my liking. I think it would be quite the spectacle for Armaggedon to break out.

All three ships have the capacity to be loaded out to be self-sufficient should the need arise. Now to make the list, 2 SRV bay, repair modules, fuel scoop, ... .

If nothing else this thread may be worthy of some thought. Granted, if nothing ever apocalyptic ever happens here then so be it. We go on as before trading, mining, misc combat until our minds go to mush. But what if... what if we truly had to find a way to survive an unknown. Now that would bring new life into the mundane routine that I have found myself in.
Will you be prepared?

Ship Transfer diminishes the need to have a "loaded for everything" ship. Just buy a cheap T6 or Cobra, upgrade to A-class FSD and go to your destination. Transfer your trade or battle ship, sell the T6, and go back to whatever it was you were doing.

Well now... I wouldn't rule out at least some nasty surprises.
Remember : Everybody was wrong about this. They aren't coming for us. They're already here!

I actually thought about employing oldschool "Vertical Dispersion". Spread Ships across a few Systems... Can't harm, if anything it's a test of the new Transfer mechanism :D

PS.
I don't quite envision SuperPowers collapsing to dust and Powers being eaten away like "PacMan finds the tasty bubble".
Or a long trek of ten thousands of Ships (cue Battlestar Galacitica music) to reach New Caprica *sorry* Colonia, eagerly monitoring Draedus while the makeshift Fleet is watching the clock during Fuel Scooping before making the next Escape FTL Jump.

BUT... no later than me hearing a snarky Alien ATC controller, asking me me what the heck I think I'm doing around their shiny new Death Star (was : human Station 24hrs before)... I might reconsider my Options xD

I really like the idea, actually. I've been toying with this idea myself. I can buy every ship in the game, rank wise, and I've settled into the Cutter. My favorite missions are long range trading or smuggling.

Once i I have the credits to modify the Cutter, I will. I'm thinking: over charged 7A power plant, upgraded thrusters, just not sure if I want 8 or 7's. Then go for max range in FSD. And finally increase recharge rate on the power distributor.

Here is my current build: https://coriolis.io/outfit/imperial...4B70705053c0sv42i2f.Iw18ZZA=.EwBhEYy6drmJEQ==

I usually replace the AMF with cargo if I'm doing missions

This will definitely mix things up. Right now I've just started building an all-purpose conda, with only engine and fsd upgrades. Perhaps we should consider forming a militia fleet for when the toxic waste hits the fan....?

If I had to get out of the bubble ASAP with only one ship right now, I'd have to take my corvette. My Cutter isn't properly fitted for any sort of endurance, neither is my Cobra, and the rest of my fleet is just stripped down waiting to be properly built. It'd be painful flying 16 ly at a time all the way to Jacque though.

As we don't really know what will happen, but if something will happen and the"mankind" might be forced out to start building some place else, I might take in consideration that there will be a lot of outposts and an medium size landing pad will be the biggest in most places so I might take my python in consideration. Tho this will make bigger ships useless most of the part so it's just a random thought :)

While I would love a "Battlestar Galactica" twist on things I really don't see it happening.
1. New players start in the bubble so wrecking it or making it super dangerous would be bad for new players
2. Years and years of game design and effort have been put into the existing bubble. It makes no sense to trash it and replace it with something else. Esp as something else would not have had the same amount of devleopment
3. Players who don't have the expansions would find things a lot harder
4. Engineers are in the bubble e.g Palin, so it's unlikely they would undo all that effort

What people need is a 'Bug In' Ship, as here is my 100% speculative theory.

If humankind is going to suffer a huge territorial loss it will be in the area around Jacques.

1. We know Aliens like Nebula's and guess where the new human bubble is... In a Nebula
2. Much less programming effort has gone into making a new bubble
3. It doesn't affect new players nor players who don't have the expansion so it's more inclusive
4. It gives players a choice. Fight on the new front or do something else
5. You still get the "shock factor" but it wont disrupt the game for people who don't want to join in.

Just my wild theory

I can totally understand any reluctance to having a large ship like a cutter or corvette as your home away from home due to lack of impressive jump range but i have already taken a cutter out to Beagle Point and it wasn't too bad. I have lots of pictures of my cutter parked next to a corvette at BP. If you're not in a hurry jump range is nearly irrelevant.
A large ship with impressive armament and defensive capabilities that can sustain a lengthy journey out in the black is what I'm aiming for.
With the engineering mods available the ship should be a force to reckon with.
If the bubble is left untouched by any adversity then perhaps exploration in and of itself becomes a more dangerous game, which would suit me just fine.
As intriguing as a "Battlestar Galactica " scenario would be, not to mention thrilling, I don't believe the end is near (zombie ships anyone?). I do, however have a huge imagination and will prepare my cutter to handle whatever it comes across even if my wild imagination leads me to new Horizons and discoveries out in the black.
