Bug report - Paying off Fine (150 credits)

Arrived as 'wanted', landed as 'anonymous', went straight to 'contacts' and selected 'pay fine', ignoring bounties that I can collect.

Incidentally - the fine was for a brief moment of still firing when a security ship flew across my line of fire directly between myself and the 'wanted' target at which point 4 other vessels all started firing upon me rather than the target they already had.

I thought you had this fixed months ago.

They should not allow you to dock. They should shoot you on approach. Because of wanted status.
They suggest go to interstellar faction to pay your fines.
Once I've decided to test what will happen if I'll dock to station where I'm "wanted" and have seen the same picture.

Yes. If you have a bounty - as opposed to a fine, and are wanted, always go to an Interstellar Factors and pay it off, then you will not end up in a detention centre.

Interstellar Factors can be found (under Contacts) at any station in a low security or anarchy system, or any station that is controlled by an anarchy faction - in case you didn't know. :)

Unfortunately the bug here exists somewhere between the the seat and the controller.
FD are going to struggle with fixing that.

You were wanted, due to firing on security, that instantly means bounty, not a fine, and you handed yourself in to security, everything I can see there worked exactly as it should.

It's worth noting that FD did raise the damage bar to reduce the number of accidental bounties caused by unintended minor hits on clean vessels. However this cap can still be exceeded, especially with highly engineered weapons on more powerful ships.

FYI first few comments ... Button definitely said, "pay off 150 fine" or I would not have clicked it. No screen shot because I had not expected to need it. Appreciate the 'factors' comments and wonder why then the local authorities would even bother to talk to me.

PS I 'knew' there was an issue because it said 'wanted'. I knew there was an issue because I could only dock anonymously. I 'thought' I had a solution because it said, "pay off fine". That I was in error is patently obvious. That the coding stinks is also patently obvious. I 'thought' this had already been fixed.

Only takes a couple of minutes, and I rarely ever get any reason to; But if and when I do, I always go to the closest Interstellar. If and when you have any doubts, it's far faster then ending up in jail and the long ride back.

The crime you described in detail never results in a fine, only a Bounty. You don't become Wanted for a fine, only a Bounty. If you manage to dock at a station where you are Wanted for a Bounty, the line in the menu that would say "pay fine", if you did have an outstanding fine, says "Hand yourself in" instead. Selecting it sends you to a Detention Centre exactly as you described. Everything happened exactly as it should.

Just write it off as a learning experience :)

i definitely doubt that

You had a bounty, you were lucky enough to be able do dock anonymously without being scanned, then you handed yourself in.

Bug report.

If you target a friendly ship then fire on it, there is no friendly fire tolerance. You get an instant bounty.

Please ...

I assure you ...

The button was labelled, "pay off FINE" this is the bug as I see it.

I did not click a button that said, "earn 40 times the fine on exploration data earned whilst making your way back"; I did not target another ship, the security services flew across my open beams and it was all over in a second; I have indeed chalked it up to 'experience, albeit a rather unnecessary, unwelcome and unpleasant one; guess my beams are throwing out more damage than I had anticipated.

And finally. Frontier Forums ... I was hoping to inform the Organ Grinders. If I wanted replies from the Shakespearean Writers Guild I'd have posted on Facebook.

As Speedcuffs said - bug report it https://issues.frontierstore.net/reported-issues/elite-dangerous . Only monkeys in here - OP is fitting in well :) Make sure you get pics and a way to reproduce it, or they'll say the same as us.

It may not help but Frontier did raise the tolerance involved in "Friendly Fire". How much is anyone's guess. I do know that when I switched all my lazer turrets from pulse to beams, which are set to target only, I get accused of shooting cops whom as you had, flew between yourself and the intended target. Never got it prior to switching, thus I switched back to pulse's.

Turretted beams always have and always will get you into a lot of trouble if you use them anywhere near cops. Get rid of them! Even gimballed beams are dodgy.

I've found that having turreted beams on my Krait MkII which I only utilize for missions in which there's only me and a couple of targets such as assassination missions; Is fine. But utilizing it with the beams in a RES Zone etc gets me into trouble. Thus I've kept my turreted beams on my Krait, and only use it for specific missions. And use my Vette with turreted pulse's in RES's, Conflic Zones, NAV Beacons etc etc etc. Haven't been fined, wanted, or sent to jail etc since.
