[BUG] Thargoid Link not being released after shooting it, gets destroyed instead

I came across this issue last weekend and just checked it again now - it still seems to be bugged. I seem to remember that once the Thargoid Link dropped from the pod, you could get it detached by simply shooting it with SRV repeater weapon.

Now they just lose health and get destroyed. There doesn't seem to be any way to get them down (detached) from the pod.

Is this is a bug or did I miss something?

I've collected quite a few links recently and didn't notice any issues. Activating the machine was bugged when another player joined, but we worked out how to do that.

I did notice an odd issue where once I'd shot the link down it magically turned into something else (a Thargoid material I think). Two of them did this (out of probably 12).

Yeah in my case they are not released from the "strings". Their hull just goes down to zero and they get destroyed and fall apart into the usual materials.

Maybe it's the specific site I'm at... I'll visit a different one and confirm.

Oh, that must be what happened to the ones that turned into materials for me. I didn't realise that once they were destroyed they turned into materials.

If they bug out (can't be released by shooting with the SRV repeater), disembark and use a hand weapon. Can even melee them.
Shield disruptor grenades can be particularly useful since they don't apply damage.

I tried shooting them with a hand gun, same result. I will try grenades as a workaround, thanks!

Yep that's been like it for a long time now. It was an intermittent issue after Update 13 when we were investigating the surface sites.

I ran into the same issue last time I was collecting guardian blueprints. I obviously needed a relic from one of the posts on site, but shooting at it to knock it off its plinth just didn't register any hits. I was able to ramp off a building and try and bump it that way, but my SRV just clipped straight through it - and it wasn't targetable as it hadn't registered being shot off its perch otherwise I'd have just scooped it in mid-air.

With the Guardian Relics, disembarking and shooting them with a pistol/rifle on foot works, as mentioned previously.

I just recently did the guardian grind to unlock ALL the guardian tech, other than the FSD booster i've had for three years, and I experienced this bug. At first I thought it was because I was using a scorpion instead of scarab, but I swapped at my ship since I carry both, before just getting out and blasting it with the trusty plasma pistol.

An interesting observation, whenever the glitch happens, all of the relics at the site will be in "no-clip" mode, until you get out and shoot one, at which point the rest of them start working with the SRV repeater.
