Bugged asassination mission, two ships with same npc pilot name. One a mission target.

I was sent to kill pirate lord Luke Sedman. When i dropped out of sc, there were two Luke Sedmans.
Both were flying anacondas, one had "wanted" and "mission target" under his name.

So the clean luke sedman in an anaconda started shooting at the pirate lord luke sedman and so did i.

We dispatched evil luke in short order, but along the way i must have clipped, forthright, upstanding luke, because i ended up with a 200 cr assualt fine for shooting luke sedman, but i also got around a 200k bounty claim for his evil twin luke sedman.

Somebody tell me its supposed to work this way.

The 'wanted' Luke Sedmans has a mole on his right cheek, the clean Luke Sedmans has a mole on his left cheek.

Be sure you kill the correct one.

I had that bug once.

Only mine were both evil wanted Elite Corvette's...
And one was more evil than the other.

Corvette 1 was simply a pirate and was attacking a trader. Corvette 2 immediately opened fire on me, before I'd even had a chance to deploy hardpoints. No scan, nothing. Lol

I killed them both. The bounty reward was was worth more than the mission. :D

This is common I have it on video three times from 2.4 before I stopped recording them.

The 3.0 patch notes also said this had been fixed.

FWIW, this is caused when you drop into a system and the target is spawned at a distant body, and using magic (because it's way outside sensor range) starts heading toward you. In the meantime, you honk or scan the beacon, and get a target body. As you arrive at the body and drop in, the original spawn from when you entered the system drops on your wake, and bingo, you've got 2 identical enemies to fight.

The interesting thing is when the doppelganger helps you take out his other self. Jet Li's One, anybody? lol.

OP, please raise a bug report, cos as I say I thinkt he patch notes said this had been fixed.

Of course it was meant that way. This is exactly why you got the mission in the first place. The true Luke Sedman noted Thagroids making doppleganger of himself. In an attempt to infiltrate humanity. So he tipped security about this, bounty was issued. And you came in.

It also happened that you met both Luke's fighting each other for supremacy. One to maintain his true identity as a human, other to keep his disguise as an alien agent. You killed the alien spy.

Or the human since before your arrival alien managed to hack his IFF and your comp marked actual human as an alien...

This 'Bug' (If it is) has been around since 2.4 dropped. been having it on about 50-60 percent of the Kill So and so missions. As others have said, kill both, for a bonus payout!

If in doubt...
