Bugged out, again?

Once again, I'm here before you asking "what". Every few weeks or months I attempt to play the game and get sorely disappointed. This time, I thought I'd try out a sabotage mission.

I carefully scoped out the base, snuck my way through a maze of corridors and restricted zones to disable the alarms. Verified the unit was correct (there was only one), and inserted the mission item. Nothing happened, I checked that it was secure and figured I might need to leave the area, still didn't complete and then I had lost the mission item. Yet another waste of an evening.

So go on then, please tell me what obvious and moronic thing I should have known here:

There are bugs.

Isn't this one of the mission types that is known bugged so people don't do it? I'm not sure hence the speculation, but there have been lots written about it.

Nah, I do these and they are fine, never had any issues. Might be a specific layout that is bugged, but the OP hasn't included that info, so who knows. They need pointing at the issue tracker 🤷‍♀️

Jeez, so I have to do background research on which missions offered in game are shagged? I backed this bag of excrement, and the promise and premise entirely capture me, but every time I try I get sorely disappointed by the lacklustre implementation.

I have one about inserting a virus in a data port. Just THAT. No extra-condition on the mission description.
I did that. Nobody saw me. Next second, alarms ring, mission fail.
Not a single damn word in the mission description about not setting on alarms. ...

Yeah... I'm calling a bug here. That should have worked.

I think to be extra sure you could use one of the Terminals scattered about the settlement to confirm that that Environmental Regulation Unit is indeed the one the mission is pointing to, but at the same time that was ERU #1 you put the Biochemical Agent into, so... 🤷‍♂️

Only other thing I could suggest is to take the Bio Agent out of the ERU and try again after a relog / short flight to Supercruise and back. That usually sorts out issues like the blank interactable panel problem.

No, and to ease your conscience, it's only a small amount of missions on the whole which exhibit this behaviour (and not bound to a specific type either unfortunately). You just got extra unlucky with it being an item-based mission. You can usually "fix" (read: reset) the mission by relogging or going to SC and back again, but you'll of course need to have the mission item in your inventory before you do so.

Yeah, I was super careful because I don't have much time to play, and I really want something to go well for me in this game. So I targetted the correct unit through a terminal (there was only one anyway), and I made sure I disabled the alarms (even though there was no mention of alarms in the mission). There was no mention of non-violence, but I did silently zap a guard that was in the way (and it narks me off no end that I have an insta-bounty for a kill that nobody witnessed, it's probably the most irritating thing about odyssey).

Still no way to incapacitate NPC without lethal force?
