Yes, wheel thrusters.
On high G worlds, they rotate to point DOWN. On low G worlds, they rotate to point UP... to push you down, like you said, OP.
I'm assuming there will be upgrades and better buggies in the future, the down thrust is not even noticeable atm.

Thrust up for a bit on a 0.1G world and then say that again. Without downward thrust you'd be in the air for minutes, literally minutes.![]()
Ah, now I get you. Please accept my apologies.
Em, I can see why you'd want it but I'm not convinced personally. If you were to implement it the obvious way seems to be to tie it to the directional thrusters used in space-flight. The downside is that they'd have to re-model the SRV thrusters so they can fire both ways or do some handwavium on the animation since at the moment they are visually and mechanically designed to be thrusting downards (larger opening at the top with smaller nozzle at bottom).
Accepted, I think this is the bog standard buggy, maybe better ones will have better thrusters and driving assists I would imagine.
That'd be awesome, have a dedicated vehicle for speed and handling (possibly no cargo space) which has more thruster control options, possibly allowing us to manually adjust the wheel thruster power as well as downwards/sideways thrust! That'd be great for racing around in!![]()
