Build Rep through Bounty Hunting?

I've given up smuggling black boxes and rebel transmissions for bounty hunting at nav beacons. I found this to be way more fun and lucrative, plus don't have to worry about finding black markets to sell my stolen goods, also don't care about getting scanned anymore.

Question - Will I eventually gain rep by helping Alliance forces kill ships if this is all I do? How much does turning in bounties give towards rep (little bit, a lot)?

Bounties works fastest, then missions and then trading.
Though sometimes missions have glitches that reduce the rep you are trying to increase..

I found a nice Alliance system with a few RES near stations and reached Allied just by turning in bounties. On a side note, the Jet Rats currently attack me on site, but I have no issue returning the favor and collecting their bounties.

I've been bounty hunting wanted ships on my rare routes to raise rep. What I don't understand is, if I take out a Federal Dropship that was wanted does this lower my rep with the Federation or does it matter?

Type of ship should not matter. Its the faction they belong to that determines where your rep goes. Generally speaking, if you are in a Federation controlled system and someone turns up "wanted", it will boost your rep with the Feds to take him out, but not always. Just be aware of their faction.

Yep bounty hunting in a Fed, Imp or Alliance system will give you better rep. Just wished getting ranks was made a bit easier.

I see a lot of people saying RES, what's the difference compared to NAV beacons? I tried a couple of times at RES, but I didn't see anyone after flying around for a few minutes. However, when i jump into beacons, it's almost actioin right away... What am I missing with RES?

RES is around the belts of planets. they are either rocky or metal. you can also mine while in these if you have the gear.

LOL, I guess if I would have waited a few more minutes I would've gotten my answer... I'm now allied with Alliance, didn't expect it to happen this soon. For those just getting started, it looks like it took about 3 - 4million in bounties to get allied.

Thanks again for everyones input.
