Proposal Discussion Build Ships

Hi, My doubt is if in the future will have planned any system in which we can build ships of game from the mining with design plans? Something similar to Eve Online

I believe outfitting as is close as you get to building your own ship... now there were some design concepts showing that actually upgrading certain elements like thrusters would change somewhat what your ship looked like but those were more subtle changes than radical ones.

I wonder if that is still in the cards I'd hate for all ships to be the vanilla variety when it comes to looks.

Unlikely.

Consider everything from the perspective of a single pilot. It's unlikely that a single pilot will spend their time building a ship from scratch, there are far better people in the ED universe who are more qualified and resource heavy to do that for him/her.

It'd be a bit like Lewis Hamilton building his F1 car for next season.

I doubt very much that such a thing would ever happen. We'd be more likely to see player-built and owned outposts than player-built ships, and the outposts idea is itself unlikely.

I can just see it now - player made space ships!

Designed in a pub, and built in a shed!

Seeing as most "normal" people have considerable difficulty in even assembling flat pack furniture - I'd just love to see how your average peep will build a space-faring superluminal space ship. I really would!

guys i think he means manufacturing existing ships with raw materials, not literally designing a ship from scratch.

Also i dont know, i just get on these forums when im bored

I can see Lakon, Faulcon deLacey etc being really happy with random people making unlicensed knock-offs of their stuff :D

So happy in fact, I'm sure they'd send someone round with a little surprise.

Or next time you dock, traffic control runs a VIN check and your lovely little kit-cobra gets impounded and crushed :)

New from Faulcon deLacey; the "build your own Cobra Mk II*" Kitset

*Ship for Novelty purposes only, ship's hull not warranted for Vacuum

I think the closest you will be able to get is Mining minerals, selling those minerals to a refinery, moving the metals to an industrial world, and RPing you getting a customer order.

As an aside, what commodities items would be a "ship" & how long it takes to build a ship.
If you collected all the tonnes of titanium and plastics and computer components and engineered ceramics, robotics and such and gave it to ship yard, how long would it take form them to complete. Just as an RP thought experiment, say the Iconic Cobra Mk3.

Yeah can't see it.
The game is designed on a similar basis to today's car industry a load of big ship companies with a range of ships to suit all tastes, sure you can build kit cars and custom bikes but few do and most aren't exactly bleeding edge design.
I'd rather see more choice per design like we have now, rival companies competing for the same ship class like we have in today's cars.
You could have 2 viper class ships but that look slightly different as from rival companies, cost pretty much the same but one maybe squeezed in an extra hard point and the other a touch more speed.
That would instantly take us to 50 ships with only really modelling work needed.

He is referring to the Eve system where you can buy a plan of the ship, lets a say a Rifter, then you see what the plan calls for in terms of construction materials. These you can either buy, mine, or both, then find a factory and submit this for construction at a system which has a factory.

After a set amount of time the factory spits out the end product usually in packed form, which you unpack and there you are new ship.

No is the answer right now, and probably for some time as we don't have direct access to factories. In Elite it is much more akin to how we buy aircraft or cars, via various manufacturers, each with their own styles.

I hope that makes sense.

One thing I can see happening is NPC hotrod shops :D

You drop off your Viper at Axelrhod's Extreme Chassis Enhancements Service, he strips back the hull, lightens or adds plating, remove/add or upgrade mounts, and so on. You come back a week later and pay an inordinate amount of credits for your beauty.

Would be a great way to build specialised hulls.

you don't need to guess, there will be no ship building ;)

correct. No ship building and no crafting....so no making a sword of Zarkul with stuff you mined and then strapping it to your ship.

Building and crafting get very dull very quickly. FD has stated these mechanics will not be in the game.

I do not think we will have industrial features of EVE Online. To be honest it is for the best. We do not want to be compared to that game or be said to be borrowing features from that game.

Elite is Elite and is a game in its own right. IMHO we do not need to have features from other games, despite how much we enjoy those games. If we want those features we can just go play those games.

This may sound harsh and like I am not open to change which would be incorrect. I am all for great ideas, I just think that those ideas should be original.
