Building a Canyon Racer.

G'day all,
I feel the need for speed, so am building two Canyon racers; one Imperial Eagle and a Imperial courier.

IMP EAGLE So far with Felicity G3 DD tuning has a boost speed of 697, yes more work needed.

IIMPERIAL Courier with G5 Dirty Drive Tuning has a boost speed of 857 m/s.

Might I request those of you who have constructed builds to please post them up, or provide a link to them so I can see where you have improved on my figures,
I believe I need a just a little more speed to become competitive,

A final question, is their a canyon racing group?

Both the Imperial Eagle & Courier can reach over 900m/s if you COMPLETELY lightweight it. The means no optional's whatsoever (ones that add weight) and all core modules except thrusters D rated. The Courier can even reach the boost speed cap of 937m/s

G'day all, thankyou all for your imput.
The Imperial Eagle after modifications with Prof Palin to Grade 5 Dirty Drives has reached a disappointing 725m/s.

Bob Lighthouse
as you suggested with your link; to the artical written by furrycat
I then redid the Experiential Effect to Drag Drives and reached a still disappointing 750m/s.

The Imperial Couirer with the same mods has reached 857m/s
Hmm the Imp Eagle, despite its inital faster boost speed, is definatly not as fast as the Imperial Courier which is about 15 tonnes lighter. at an inital weight of 35t compared to the Imperial Eagle of 50t.

SPOILT-T,
I read your comment with some interest; do you mean no mods whatsovever and lightweight everything.
or Mod the Thrusters just to A3 as they come from Felicity.
and then lightweight everything else.
if you have the time would you care to write some more in details; like
what items were upgraded to what level
; what items were light-weighted,
;who did the mods,

I rearly want to crack 900m/s
.

You need to downsize and lighten things like power plant, FSD, PD, life support, sensors, and fuel tank too.
Without seeing your build it's hard to say what you need to work on but my iEagle boosts over 900 with shields and armor/hull upgrades.

Post your build and we can help.

furrycat's more complete guide to engineering for racing can be found here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/282917

You really need to maximise the weight reduction through engineering to get over 900 m/s; so far as I'm aware, 932 m/s is the maximum achievable*.

* without using FA off and gravity assist, that is; free fall of jsut over 29,000 m/s has been reported!

I have one of each. They aren't 100% race builds as they are both (lightly) armed and shielded. Looking at them, I think I can probably improve them a bit with the new engineering... :)

iEagle is here.

iCourier is here.

(In fact, it boosts slightly faster as that one has new system DD with the Drag Drive experimental effect.)

Bob lighthouse, all
Here is the link to my build of Imperial courier XU2,
the figures say I have a top speed of 480 and a boost of only 830m/s
Yet when I load the Outfitting page for this vessel it now shows I have a Top Speed of 652 m/s and a Boost speed of 885 m/s
I have checked the entered figures twice, and can find no error.
On checking the op build I see I can lose more weight by lighting the scanning sensors and life support.
Well I think it's time to go VR in a canyon and see how XU2 and I fly.....

Here's 932m/s Imperial Eagle build just be sure to remember it has poop jump range.

Use the new link I gave you first of all, lol...
It has the new engineering stats.

Second, you need to change:
FSD to 2D, add stripped down special effect.
Same goes for your PD, make it 2D, but you'll want engine focused and stripped down mods.
You need to lightweight mod your life support and sensors.
You'll probably want the smallest fuel tank possible too.

That should get you into the 900s.

Morning Bob, spoil-t, all
Thanks for the advise, will work on the ship after a gather more materials.
Went Canyon Flying in Oculus Rift VR last night, Crikey that Imperial eagle is quite a big ship.
All the best to you all, and thanks for your assistance.

Bob, all,
with interest I have read the information provided, seems that their are two types of racing available, each requiring a different style of modules.
The Bucky Ball and Canyon Racer.

With your Canyon Racer's FSD..
.When you applied the faster boot sequence, did you only go to Grade 1?
and then apply the weight reduction?
Also most interested in comments as to which ship is better for which style of racing,

Drag Drives secondary effect for thrusters will net you a little more top speed than Drive distributors. Downsize everything you can except for your power distributor. Lightweight all modules that can be lightened.

Durability is often overlooked in the pursuit of maximum speed. I like to be able to crash a few times before exploding.

-Heavy duty armor modification on lightweight alloys-- Gives you a hull integrity boost without increasing mass.
-A 2D shield generator is the lightest shield with the most mj-- Apply an enhanced, low power mod to reduce the mass.
-Depending on your ship and optimal mass, you may be able to add a small hull reinforcement with little to no speed penalty.

Remember, once you reach a certain point, shaving weight doesn't raise your max speed. Play around with it.

Cknarf,
thank you for your suggestions, may I ask what do you fly and what events, Canyon racing or Bucky Ball?

EDSY (Loadout Imperial Courier XU2)

Morning all, sorry to be a pain.
I have carried out all the mods as suggested and have used the new EDSY (above ) to calculate the latest build to the Imperial Courier, come Canyon Crawler.
I have adjusted EDSY as per my out fitting screen details
But something is wrong.. EDSY seems to be stuck and wont move off TOP SPEED 612 m/s and BOOST of 830 m/s

Also, on my ED screen in outfitting it shows I have a TOP SPEED of 652 m/s and a BOOST of 885 m/s'
which on application both on a planetary canyon and in space is correct.

Could you please have a look at my build as according to you all with the application in hand I should be cracking over 900 m/s
Frustratingly yours

You didn't add the experimental effect on EDSY.

That looks like the top speed possible.

Evening all,
Well I recon your right the Imperial Courier will only boost into the high 800's.
I have spent the day rebuilding an Imperial Eagle and have achieved a TOP SPEED of 692 m/s with a BOOST SPEED of 923 m/s.
There is a little more still to gain, but I need more materials to lighted a component to L5 and that should give me the last couple of m/s.
I'm off now to do a VR flight in a canyon in the Oculus rift.
Might I ask your suggestions for decent canyons near a space port please.

Next project is to pick out a ship and ready it for the Bucky Ball runs....suggestions are most welcome.
Once again thank you all for your comments and suggestions.
