Building excitement on River Rapids?

It seems like my heat maps are determined to make my ride ho-hum. Throughout most of the ride, excitement stays around 5.5 and that's it.

I have been trying to include lots of "splash moments", sudden drops into rapids, turns, trying to make the raft spin, things like that. About the only place the excitement is highest is when it honestly shouldn't--- about midway through the excitement climbs to 7 when... the raft is being carried up a hill. [ugh] Then when it gets to the top, it's 5's ville.

Maybe I need to make better use of the sections that open up the left side/right side and make it bump around a little more? I dunno... It's hard to figure what PC thinks makes for an exciting river rapids course.[wacky]
 
I think there's a limit to how exciting you can make them. That kind of makes sense as otherwise your rapids ride would be more exciting that some rollercoasters.
 
I have that exact same feeling. No matter how exciting the rapid ride, it is set up that way so that you can't make it more exciting than your most exciting coaster. At least that's how I rationalize it.
 
Its the same with the log flume you cant get them much over 5. Both of them are given a higher preference by guests because of this however so they still ride them (too much preference at the moment, guests flock to water rides over everything else).
