Building indoors without the camera getting stuck?

I've tried to build an indoor zoo multiple times, but I always get frustrated and quit because I constantly have to fight the camera every step of the way. The camera tends to not go through the ceiling sometimes unless I can manage to click on an item inside for it to focus on. At worst, I'm forced to back the camera all the way out, move away, and re-enter through the entrance.

Is there a setting to disable this kind of camera behavior? Or should I just make the ceiling the very last thing I add?

Select the roof pieces, separate them from the bulding group and move it with X way up to have access. Once your done, select the roof group and move it back down to its original position.

Did you try pressing t to toggle the camera? If that doesn't work for you either build the roof last or like Jileha said move it out of the way while working.

I find this camera behaviour annoying as well, for what it's worth. When camera collision is turned off, we should be able to zoom in and out through walls, ceilings, and raised paths first time, without struggling with the camera position. I swear the camera collision toggle used to work perfectly. Maybe one of the updates bugged it or something.

I wish there was a better way since I like seeing the final project as I work (constantly moving the ceiling up and down would be tedious), but I'll try toggling the camera mode with T next time I open the game. I believe I did that before, but I didn't like how awkward the controls were so I switched it back

Are you building with terrain in the way? Because I always have trouble when working in a confined terrain space, but I always have roofs on my buildings while I make them and don't get stuck on construction parts.
The closest I can find is if I am working inside and accidentally zoom out a little too far my camera ends up outside, then zooming back in with scroll wheel only gets me as far as the roof pieces; is that what you are coming across? In this case using Q and E to move the camera up and down vertically puts me straight back under the roof and back to building!
