Building question

Sometimes when I am grouping non-grid pieces and try to move this group up and down to fit in a building, it is only moving in "jumps" up and down as if it where on a grid - not smothly, so that I can't get them in the correct position. What am I doing wrong? What's the trick?

If you move it with m instead of x , maybe postion snap or align to surface is enabled ( lower right options)
Otherwise I have no idea if there are only non-grid pieces involved.

It's possible you have a grid piece somewhere in the mix. I'm not sure if 'align to surface' affects groups of objects, but 'position snap' might be the problem in that case. Otherwise, as onk says, if you are using 'move' instead of 'advanced move' and using the shift key to raise or lower your group, then it's probably moving in one metre jumps.

It is just in height. And it is sometimes the same with grid pieces, although set to 0 for gridheight and 1 for grid. I try to add them and they wouldn't go the same height like the other pieces, but just below or above.

The really bad thing about it is I am not even able to (un)check "align to surface", because that option simply is not there. There is only "angle snap" and I tried both on and off - there is no difference with getting the right height.

Try to use x instead of m, that might work better.

I don't think you are necessarily doing anything wrong to cause this behaviour, but unfortunately I don't think there is a clear way to make it behave as you expect either. I often find that despite changing the vertical snap slider to zero, the game acts as if it is 1m or more. Sometimes unselecting all the things, reselecting them, moving the vertical slider off 0m and then back to 0m helps for me.
This happens to me very randomly and frequently, it's frustrating and I think it's a minor bug, kind of like how if I want to change the snap angle I always have to uncheck and recheck the snap checkbox before I can change it.

It was the checked "global vertical docking" in the main settings. I unchecked it and.... it let me choose the height without jumps.
