Newcomer / Intro Bulletin Board Missions

I accepted one of these missions earlier: Jump a couple of systems away (anarchy system) and destroy two traders. I made the jumps, cruised around, found an USS and locked on to it. It was a large trader ship so I attacked and destroyed it.

Nothing happened so I checked the transactions pane in the left window and my mission had changed to something completely different: eliminate 4 pirates in a completely different system. Doesn't make any sense, what happened to the mission I had chosen to carry out?

I know Elite isn't about hand holding but some guidance/notification is needed.

I suspect this is more a bug than anything else.

There are situations where you will have your mission updated at a USS - but you're generally notified in the comms.

My guess is that the trader sent a comms call to you to say he'd pay you more if you went to hunt pirates instead. Check your comms history by pressing 2
