Newcomer / Intro Bulliten Board Mission

So I grabbed a mission to kill 2 traders (no names) in two possible systems. I flew to the two systems and didn't see any contacts listed as "Trader" but I saw cargo hauler so I decided to shoot it. Unfortunately, I was I think too close to a space station and was immediately destroyed.

First, how am I suppose to find the target of these missions? Second, should I even bother with combat missions in a starter ship or should get some cash first and upgrade?

I havent yet done any missions where they want me to target ships of the Faction Trader. However I have done the equivalent missions targetting Pirates. So I presume it will be somewhat similar. First get yourself to one of te named systems, then look for a USS Unidentified Signal Source. enter that and if theres ships there scan them. Then check the Contacts tab on your left panel, and see what faction they belong to. If its traders youve found a target, if its something else, you need to keep looking. Hopefully this will help you some, or at least get you started and looking in the right locations.
