Bump and Boom

very nice, out of interest how much did you have to shoot it before you bumped to get the boom without destroying yourself? a little, quite a bit or a lot?

That actually might be a really interesting mechanic.

Imagine having a group of ship types specifically designed to destroy other ships by ramming.

It would be like old school Viking/Roman ships.

I might start a new thread on this.

That works when your maximum velocity is a couple of knots.

Once you get to even the low velocities currently in game (e.g. up to 500m/s), kinetic energy will tend to crumple event the best ram, along with whatever crew is behind it.

....meanwhile back in the real world Mazhurg points out the fatal flaw in the whole plan.

It's a game, I get that, but it does have some rules based on physical laws and while they are somewhat flexible for "fun" purpose, there are limits...

nice tactic... but.. do it with the anaconda if you dare

:D

I've actually seen Kerrash do this in one of his streams. He nicked under the shields and tapped the Anaconda in such a way it blew up.

The suspicion was it was an unintended weakness. He's probably reported it now.

He tried to repeat it and he couldn't.

Could dedicate all resources and structures to give high energy shields and no weapons at all and just ram things to death with a purpose built ship?
After all it's shield v shield/hull. It's about other physics perhaps.
Either your shield stays intact and destroys the other ship, or it fails and you get destroyed. Each engagement will guarantee a death. Pretty cool.
So it would be worse to ram slowly and bounce as it causes motion damage to your hull, but if you ram at supreme velocity one ship or the other will disintegrate and the successful ship will hardly feel anything, like bullet through butter. Size/mass of ship shouldn't matter. A tiny ship could pass right through a vast flag ship of the line.
I dont know the background to shield technology, maybe it could work.

Getting through shields in this way was mentioned in the Dev diaries as a viable tactic.. :)

Ya I got close to the anaconda it was super easy to destroy. Just sit on the engines overload it with weapons and missiles.

A easy fix for this is the heat from the Engine would do damage to your shields.
