Kinectimals Burger King Pet Toys?

Burger King will be offering kid toys in their BK Kids Meals that have a code that can be scanned into Kinectimals(just like the plush toys). It will unlock a virtual version of the toy in the game that you can throw around in the game and your pet cat will fetch it.

Burger King is partnering with Microsoft to target children and offer a free toy in Kiddie Meals that will also act as a virtual toy within Xbox games. The physical toys will come with a tag, which is used to scan the toy into an Xbox Kinect game called Kinectimals. The launch is expected before Christmas this year.

Speaking at the Cannes Lions Festival, Microsoft senior vice president Mich Mathews used the deal with Burger King to explain the branding opportunities made possible by Microsoft’s controller-free technology, Kinect. The Kinect technology will work by linking up a motion and voice sensitive camera to the Xbox 360. The Kinect add-on is already available for pre-order and will be officially released sometime in the autumn.

The Kinectimals game is targeted at children and allows players to bond with five different animals by teaching them new tricks, playing together and completing challenges. After the Burger King toy is scanned into the game, the virtual toy can be thrown around and the pet animal will fetch it and bring it back to the player.

Is this an exclusive with Burger King? Or will you be able to get these same toys by either unlocking them inside the game or buying them off Live Marketplace?

Also are there any plans to add any other kind of pets like dogs? So far I've only heard of a couple of cats.

The family and I are really excited for the game. Definitely helped sell Kinect to the wife. ;)

The toys are currently exclusive to Burger King, you will need the tag from the meal to unlock the toy.

Kinectimals is a variety of wild (but lovely :) ) cat cubs, there's no word on other animals at the moment.

Thanks Michael for the reply! No big deal about having to go to Burger King. I never need an excuse to go there. ;) And can't wait to see what other animals you might have in store. I was thinking you might go the wild cub route, which could mean wolves, bears(pandas, polar, etc) and maybe even seals, sea lions or walruses. ;)

Great marketing idea. Do you know many toys Burger King will receive or how may kids meals get sold in an average day/week/month?

I don't have any data, but I'd imagine they'll be stocking up to make sure they don't sell out (upset kids = bad for business) =)

Thanks for posting this!

No problem. BTW, here in the States, I was able to purchase 2 of the 6 toys today. At first I thought all of them would be plushies, but when I got them home only the Giraffe was a plushy, the Gorilla was a plastic wind up toy. :S Oh well. We were told by the store that they will release 2 new ones each week starting next Sunday.
