General / Off-Topic But who's actually interested in Space?

It is if there's little light polution, you can see a band of faint stars that look almost like it should be very thin cloud.

I liked the space since I was a child, that's one of the reasons why started to watch Star Trek TNG on the TV with the age of 10. I was very interested in space in general, but more in the "feel" than just pure data, otherwise I probably would have learned another career. Recently bought a telescope, but don't know how the hell to use it, besides it hurts my eyes when I'm long time (trying to) use it (because of my glasses I think).

Is it actually possible to see the Milky Way from the UK? I have often tried to see it but never succeeded.

Very much, If you get away from the cities out into the countyside, on a clear night you can get some stunning views of the Milky Way.

I remember being in North Norfolk camping with friends and all of us were stunned into silence by the sight. I even stopped drinking for at least 10 mins!!!

Today, there are already millions of people in the world who've completely lost their connection to many of the things that were perfectly natural for most humans only a generation or two ago. Observing a truly dark night sky is one of those things. It's an amazing and also a humbling experience to stand beneath such a sky. It makes you feel pretty small compared to the infinite vastness of the cosmos.

That's part of the problem of living in a big city - too many lights to see anything!

Absolutely! We are in the middle of moving from Bristol to Exmoor, and the difference is amazing! The phase of the moon makes a big difference, stars are clearer, and it can be so DARK. Not, oh, hang on, I need to let my eyes adjust a bit dark but oh s**t walked into a wall dark.

You feel really connected to nature (too literally sometimes!)....yet also grateful for itorch

Hello everyone.

Just wanted to let you know to keep on topic I moved this thread to the off topic section. There are other Astronomy threads there as well we can continue to discuss in. It is an amazing area. :)
