Elite / Frontier ....but why is space blue?

At the time they thought the blue space would give a better contrast on machines and displays against the darker planets (otherwise all the planets would have to have been fairly bright themselves). Unfortunately it suited some displays better than others and looked wierd against others.

I've had monitors go 'on fire' too. Stupid Imperial Couriers!

Ahem.

Good to know! I never knew why it was blue, and as a recent fan, I've only played Fe2 on modern PC's.

On a completely unrelated note does it make anyone feel old that the Amiga 1000 came out before I was born?

Yeah - nowadays, we have sufficient lighting and shadow effects for everything to look amazing.

I believe someone asked this in the comments section near the beginning of the Kickstarter campaign. If you look back you might be able to find David's reply to it, but what it essentially came down to was graphical limitations I believe. ;)
