Buurst Laser of Torpedo?

What the picture does not tell you: The Torpedo does a sh*tload of damage to any ship. For example: Viper hull from 100% to 15% (without shields) with one 15.000CR shot. If you target subsystems and launch the torpedo close to said submodule, the damage is almost fatal, even on an Anaconda.

As you can see in my picture, what is the purpose of the torpedo? when the laser says it has better Armour penetration?

Torps do an insane amount of damage. You only use them if you are rich or need to mess up someones day. I have 8 Torps on my Clipper, fly in open with no shields. The plan is to never use them, but if a player tries to interdict me, I'll target the power plant and they will get 8 surprises to deal with.

lol i can't afford 15k per shot, that's more than the dam launcher lol

Torpedos are for killing large ships, but you are only able to carry a few (ie 1-3) also they are very expensave.
if you want to have something that hits hard but has a bit more ammo, you can buy a missel rack and load dumb fire rounds, 24-32 rounds usualy, and quite a bit of pop. from what I have heard, mines are pointless. anyway. for most ships vs fighters, burst or beam lazers are better. vs unknown ships, beam, or burst with multicannons, and for large ships, beam or burst with fragment cannons. or dumbfire missles, and if you just need to kill it quick, torpedos. (although I dont suggest it if your very very low on funds)

so how much is a single missile

I know that a full rack of 24 cost about 10k. not sure if the medium mounts cost more though. again, it will be very easy for your ammo cost to spiral out of control if you go crazy with missle racks.
multicannons or fragment cannons are far better if you want cost effecancy, but again, if you have the money to spend, enjoy it.

They are not good vs hull. As I said, target subsystems. No need to take down the hull.

Very true, it makes me wonder how many people actually use sub targeting. You can destroy an Anaconda with 60% hull if you target the power plant. 8 torps (which is the max my clipper can carry) Will decimate most heavy targets, or at the very least they will run for sure.

Definitely not an option if you are low on cash, but if you want to make a point, and feel secure, torps are the way to go.

I will give that a go. I always target drives and then power plant once they are drifting out of control.

Be interesting to see what happens when i target the power plant with a torp !!!

See if you can purchase the upgraded Torps, the launcher is more expensive (around 44000c) But it holds more Torpedo's and they have a higher yield.

The upgraded torpedo's also cost less per torp (15000c down to 7500c)

61 Cygni should have them in stock

Must have a go with these at some point - they sound like fun ! are they good at getting through point defence turrets ? Mine seems to take out all inbound missiles but no idea if torps have better "armour"

So if I ever get hit with ~8 torpedos and don't die immediately, I'll know your out of ammo and will die easily :3

I've given up on the targeting subsystem panel.... I assume I'm not using it correctly though.

I target the ships Jump Drive, see that it shows Frame Shift Drive 100% in the target status on the right and then blast away with my Beam Lasers (or whatever). Typically it will go down about 15 to 20% before the entire ship explodes... basically it's taking more hull damage before the subsystem even starts to get damaged.

Is there a trick? Are gimballed weapons bad for targeting subsystems? Do you have to be within a certain distance before it works properly? How to prevent the ship from blowing up hull damage wise?

Thanks!

Cheers dude.

I love dumbfire racks but they are intermittently bugged on the Pythons large hardpoint and i have been looking for a heavy hitter to replace them...

Im off to 61 Cygni...

I've tried various parts to aim at - I've not found a ship with a vulnerable FSD yet. The only one that definitely "works" so far is the power plant of an Anaconda - target that and it seems you can hit it from above or below and take out the whole ship with most of the hull intact

Hehe, if my 6th torp has hit and you still have 50% hull... I'm charging the FSD and getting the hell outa there! :)

I have a Panic macro setup with Voice attack :) I say 'retreat!' The ship switches off flight assist, diverts power to engines, and boosts every 4 seconds while charging the FSD. Has got me out of scapes in the past!
