Buurst Laser of Torpedo?

As you can see in my picture, what is the purpose of the torpedo? when the laser says it has better Armour penetration?

It's a one shot weapon that costs 15000cr, with an extremely high chance of hitting the target. The one time I used it, it did about 25% hull damage to a federal dropship (fired after I'd taken down it's shields).

Hehe, if my 6th torp has hit and you still have 50% hull... I'm charging the FSD and getting the hell outa there! :)

I have a Panic macro setup with Voice attack :) I say 'retreat!' The ship switches off flight assist, diverts power to engines, and boosts every 4 seconds while charging the FSD. Has got me out of scapes in the past!

Oh man I need to look into this voice-attack thing. I would say though, you might not have to worry about the boost button after your flight assist is off. Unless you set it so that your assist pops back on momentarily to correct and pitch/yaw movements and then pops back off to be replaced by another boost.

Crap, I'm offering advice to the enemy again.

Troyan advice.
It's outdated and not valid anymore - now FA off decelerates from boost speed to max normal speed.. ;)

I will give that a go. I always target drives and then power plant once they are drifting out of control.

Be interesting to see what happens when i target the power plant with a torp !!!

You will need to find the right angle,
so that the torps hit in a 90° angle.

When the 'conda faces you, try to boost below it and thrust downwards,
should fit to hit if your ship is in an 45° angle to the target the projectile will adjust.

Missiles are categorized as explosive weapons, so there is no upgradeable armor against them for starters,
they can damage multiple subsystems with one hit, and deal good damage versus small and fast target's hulls.

missles, especaly dumbfire missles, are great vs hull, but torpedos have very high pen damage and fewer shots, and yet dont have as much total damage as missles do. however they are more for killing subsystems in one to two shots, only large ships right now have subsystems that make them more "killable" and thats what torpedos are used for. at least as far as people can make it out.

Torps do an insane amount of damage. You only use them if you are rich or need to mess up someones day. I have 8 Torps on my Clipper, fly in open with no shields. The plan is to never use them, but if a player tries to interdict me, I'll target the power plant and they will get 8 surprises to deal with.
8?
That's 120k of ammunition...

And all of this will be wasted by the push of a single button (closing external hatches/silent running) :D

Not really keen on torpedo's as they have very limited ammo, if you miss with one then you are down a weapon.

I can only see a use for them on bigger ships, for the smaller ships like the Cobra and Viper not really worth it.

There's a little trick you can do to maintain a constant FA off speed that involves using a thruster in conjunction with boosting. As long as you hold the thruster and keep ship oriented in the direction the ship is traveling the speed will stop bleeding. Takes practice but saves on having to always boost.

I do believe and fully accept that I may be wrong, but was there not a smallish chunk in notes recently that mentioned the removal of using thrusters with fao to attain unintended speeds?

I am quite sure I recall reading that note and going "huh.....never thought of that.....too bad I missed it."

Well, in coordinated groups, it could be a way for fighters to take out big ships. Like a the WWII Japanese Kates.

See if you can purchase the upgraded Torps, the launcher is more expensive (around 44000c) But it holds more Torpedo's and they have a higher yield.

The upgraded torpedo's also cost less per torp (15000c down to 7500c)

61 Cygni should have them in stock

When you say upgraded, do you mean the class 2 pylon, or a unique launcher? I've only really seen C1 torpedo pylons (1 shot) and C2 pylons (2 shots). They both fired the same heat-seeking torpedos.

Am talking about the C2 Pylons, the ones that cost 7500 per Torp. It could very well be that the Yield is the same.

Cheers

Are you sure those aren't dumbfire torpedoes? I purchased a C2 torpedo pylon at one point, and it used the same 15k cr seeker torpedos as the C1 pylon- just two of them, instead. I'm pretty sure I've seen dumbfire torpedo launchers before, and that would explain the significantly cheaper ammo.
