Buy it cheap

When the witcher 3 came out just a few weeks ago it was 50 dollars now it is about half that on sale already.

I just purchased on steam the witcher 2 for 3 Euros.

In few years when the witcher 3 gets below 5 dollars I will buy that as well.

I also bought the amazing 2013 version of tomb raider for 4.99 euros.

See what I am getting at, why buy the top AAA games for 50 dollars, simply always buy a few years back all the time and you save 90% of your gaming costs and the slightly older games are nearly as good.

Meh.

If a company makes a good game I don't mind giving them the money on release to make more. It's just what people consider value for money. Witcher 3 is well worth full price played that for 290 hours and not even touched the dlc yet.

On the other hand call of duty black ops secret wars with robots 8 will never get full price at all from me.

It's just a matter of value for money which of course is a personal thing.

But it's so much more satisfying to buy Witcher 3 a year or 2 later, with a GOTY edition, at 50-60% off!

Nah. In the case above witcher 3. It was so damn good that it was more satisfying to pay what it was worth. In recent years there's been so many "AAA" games with AAA prices that promised the earth and didn't reach the mark for whatever reasons.

Witcher 3 promised the earth and the dev's delivered it in spades and more. If every games developer did that with their games I'd happily pay full price. The vast majority don't come close so in those cases aye happy to pay bargain bin price.

The OP uses witcher 3 as an example and id say to him that it's worth the money and more in this case.

I agree as I don't have a lot of spare money for entertainment, but if I do buy on the cheap I like to try and ensure all money goes to the devs as opposed to funding middlemen. A bit more hassle searching for deals but I feel happier about it.

I got the Witcher 3 free from Nvidia on GOG.com.
The game is well worth the full price, the add on was 9€ in the winter sale.
At GOG.com you get the game DRM free, will all manuals, Soundtrack, paper crafting stuff, comics and other stuff.

Anyway i usually wait quite some time too before i buy a new game. Most of the Assassins Creed games i got quite cheap that way.
Also new released games are often buggy, Witcher 3 had a few but got corrected quite fast and the other Game i gotten free was Batman Arkham Knight.
Well that one is infamous already ;)

I would say its no wonder Witcher 3 has won so many rewards.
