Buying a 2nd account on steam?

Currently theres a great sale on steam for Frontier's 25th anniversary, I'd love to pick up a 2nd copy of elite and start again, but afaik it's not possible, is there any work around short of having an entirely separate steam account just for the 2nd copy?

+ I would just buy it from the fdev store with a 2nd email address, but they've not got a sale right now

I set up a second steam account with an alternative email address, loaded the game then launched with 'new' credentials.
Back to 'normal' steam account and launch ED with those 'new' credentials. As long as you don't have the remember me boxes ticked a couple of accounts run very nicely from the same launcher.

You need a second email address and a separate Launcher from your Steam account but it works well.

There's no way around 2 separate Steam and FDev accounts, but if you use gmail, at least you can use the same email account.
Either use accountname@gmail.com and accountname@googlemail.com,
or use accountname@gmail.com and account.name@gmail.com. Gmail ignores dots in account names.
You can use ED Account Switcher to easily switch between accounts.

I have one with fdev and one with steam, each using a different email. I then made another desktop shortcut for Cmdr Secondary, it seems to work well.

I'm afraid this isn't very helpful for OP situation though - sorry
