General / Off-Topic Buying a lovely new 65" TV but...

... I really can't seem to decide which to get - as they all seem very mediocre...

I have a budget of preferably sub £1700, and it sems manufacturers are deliberately pricing their 'premium' stuff way outside of that bracket. Sadly, all last years models, which I was loking to get, have suddenly disappeared from most retailers, and I am struggling to find one that has a good 4K HDR screen - most seem to be very low brightness.

Does anyone have any hints as to what would be good - did YOU buy something recently that is very good and I might have over looked?

One word AMAZON

I’m in the U.K. and the amazon site here is showing plenty of models from £800 upwards.

I bought a "previous year's model" TV from Richer Sounds some time ago - they've got several 65" 4K HDR TVs on their website at the moment.

Well it's not really where to get them from, but which one? The absolute best I've found so far is a Q7 Samsung for £1750, which is a ridiculous bargain, and is the ONLY one I've found in my price range that isn't quite lo-med range. IT just seems I missed the boat as it were, as all the new models are coming out now, and they cost far too much IMO, even the midrange sets are near on £2k, ans as they're no real different in terms of nits or features than last year, it's irritating that stores are focusing on these now - better profit margins of course.

I’m always 4-5yrs behind in the technology of tvs as il run my present model till it burns out, but even when I go to buy a new one il pick a model 2yrs out of date as like you say the pricing of new models/tech is ridiculous. Case in point my present lg55” tv cost £1300 new four yrs ago similar models can now be bought for a third of that. At the time I was looking curved TVs were the new fad and around £4000 now you can pick one up for £1300.

theres an LG 65UJ630V on Amazon for £898 no idea if that is within the specs your after, just one of the models showing

I got a little OLED TV to play Elite on, because the black is really black.
It didn't cost much, and it performs OK, but it only has a resolution like my old LCD monitor.

Getting higher resolutions is probably the way forward.

If i had to buy another, I'd forgo 4K altogether.
Not worth it IMHO, until 4K media becomes the norm.
Upscaling is a terrible feature.
Wish plasma would make a return.

Actually I went to that bastion of high quality technical service and knowledge - Currys/PC World, avoided every single person who worked there, and finally settled on the LG 65JS950v - but not from there of course.. no, I found it for £1499 which is an absolute steal. Getting it in a couple of days.. my inner child is quietly jumping up and down with glee :D
