Buying a new ship help

I am trading a highly upgraded Viper to Vulture. Is it more economical to just trade up the Viper as equipped (and capture the credit value of the current components) or should I sell what components I can and downgrade the remaining components to the cheapest available? I'm not completely clear on what the individual redemption credit values are so would like to know which is the best upgrade path.

Thanks

I've been told that selling the individual components is better. You get full price on them, but the ship is discounted by a percentage when you sell it back.

Always sell everything you can, and downgrade everything else as low as you can, before you trade your ship in for the new one. If you leave them on the ship, you will get hit with a 10% loss of all your components. If you sell or downgrade ahead of time, you get 100% of the money for them back. You will then only lose 10% on the cost of the hull itself.

Correct. Every time you sell a ship, you get 10% less than you have paid for it. its the same for every module. The way to go is exactly what you said.

You only lose 10% of what the ship is worth when you sell it.
sell everything you can and downgrade the rest before you sell it.
