buying Odyssey on the frontier store vs steam

Hi.

I bought the core game on the frontier store and now I want to buy odyssey.
I notice that there are some times sales on steam (probably other platforms too).

Are these sales reflected on the frontier store, or will I have to buy Odyssey at full price?

Is there a way to transfer my frontier store copy of elite dangerous to steam so that I can take advantage of any sales on steam?

I bought a copy recently from the FDEV store while a Steam sale was on and it was the same price. It's possible they don't always match the Steam price though.

If you bought through the FDev store, you can not buy through Steam nor can you transfer one way or the other. Keep a look out for a sale on FDev website. They pop up often enough.

That's not actually true, as I did it recently. If you have an old copy from the fdev store you can export a steam key (check the support site how to do this). Once you have that key working with steam then just buy Odyssey on that (steam) acct (from Steam). And the fdev launcher still works to launch the game.

I think newer copies from fdev don't have a steam key, in which case Romi is correct, I think.

Here's the guide to how to get steam keys for your fdev store products:

But this presents another problem - do i now need to install it under steam, and will my carrier/ships be transferred if I do?
This is all very confusing and poorly documented, and at the end of the day i fear most people will just 'meh' and give up.

How much simpler it would be if they could just offer the same discount on their fdev store..

Alright, it works just like Factabulous said - thank the powers that be for that.

It is, however, very unfortunate that this information is something you have to dig for on the forums.
