By brain says play... my cheeks say stop... for the love of god stop!!!!

Anybody else have pain in their cheek bones. Right under the eyes, where the OR padding hits. It's brutal.

Please note you might not experience this unless you play 6+ hours per day.

Anyways.... its very sore and I hate it. But I love ED with the OR more than the pain hurts.... so, I'll keep playing until my cheeks bleed.

Just wanted to see if anyone else was suffering from this as well.

Cheeks, nope, nose a little bit, ears quite often due to straps catching the top of them, but i've recently repositioned the rift and its helped avoid that greatly. Not sure if you can reposition in some way to help in your case?

Best bet is to loosen the strap that goes around the back of your head until its just touching you face and not pressing on it and shorten the one that goes over the top to make it hang down from that rather than be pushed on your face by the other one. It has the slight disadvantage that the rift moves slightly when you look up in dogfights etc but for long play its a much better way to wear it!

Sounds like you didn't have your headset adjusted properly, and you bruised part of your face. I had this happen to me on my nose. It took a few days for the pain to go away. But I believe once it heals you'll be in a better spot, if it happen again. The headset doesn't need to be very tight, if adjusted properly, you want it to almost float off your face.

If you play a lot, like most of us I assume ;), the rift should just be hanging using the top head strap. The strap behind your head should not press the rift against your face at all...

I used to look like a skier after they remove their goggles... I also always move the lens as far as my eyes as possible (using the side plastic screws) so I don't create any "fog" on them... (dont forget to "recalibrate" the rift using the control panel)

Are you strapping it down to tight or something? I have played as long as 10 hours in one session and overall have used my DK2 for hundreds and hundreds (and hundreds?) of hours since I got it and have never felt even the slightest bit of pain or discomfort other than the bulk itself. The worst I get is the nefarious nose itches.

maybe i just have an abnormally large head.... I only see the top strap as adjustable... the horizontal strap that goes along the head is set to maximum... no more slack and it's still brusing my cheeek bones

Um, in that case and I hate to say this, but yeah you've got a big head ;)
If the side straps are at maximum length, but the rift is still too tight then either you've got it in a strange position or its just not big enough for you. I'd try seeing if you can place it differently maybe higher up on your head and see if the side straps aren't as tight.

yeah, i agree witht he tighting the top strap as that should be carrying most of the weight, not the side straps..

For the side straps.. idk, maybe get something to hold them out in streached mode and use a hairdryer to heat up the elastic and maybe relax it so it is not squeezing so much?

The DK2, it looks like the back part of the strap can be popped out of the middle of the tensioning clips and then can be removed from that side.. might need to do that and then look at some skiing goggle and see if there is something to extend them out a bit more.. even extra and then use the oculus straps to then tighten it

Maybe something like this, one for each side so the center strap stays centered? http://www.topeak.com/products/PanoBikeAndRideCase/chest_strap_extension

Alot of dry cleaning places will do alterations of cloth stuff if you need them cut/trimmed/sized as well

(sorry i do a lot of fab work, i know other people dont like just taking stuff apart as quickly as I do)

I get a sore nose every time I play - I have quite an aqualine nose, so I guess its bridge sticks out more than average. The DK2 ends up resting on it and leaves a mark every time. It's not quite as bad as the DK1 was though - with that I often put a sticking plaster on my nose before donning the headset to cushion it.

My current play time is limited by pain in my cheek bones. The foam on the Rift starts to irritate my skin after about an hour and it's getting a bit raw. I think is from the Rift actually moving slightly on my face when I look around. I have resolved to putting a little bit of velvet cloth between the foam and my cheeks to lessen the chaffing...

...it's taken me about 5 attempts to write this post to try and avoid as much innuendo as possible... :)

I got some Sugru and made a little nosepiece for the rift that fits to my nose. it's not perfect, there's still pressure there (and it's a bit too far down my nose to feel like a proper nose piece, which should be on the bridge) but it does spread it out the pressure a bit, so instead of that hard plastic ridge on the nose, it's a wider area. I'm considering trying to build an actual nose-piece that suspends some of the weight on the actual bridge of my nose as well, but that will be trickier!

How soon before people start presenting to their GPs with various Rift related head and neck problems? :p. I bet you someone in the USA will try to sue despite the warning message.

I apparently had it arched up to the back of my head and was causing extra pressure on my face. I didn't like it around my ears, but I've since put it back down to right over my ears and the pressure is gone. Thanks everyone!
