Hardware & Technical Bytes or bits?

Holding down Ctrl on a PC keyboard and pressing B toggles a bandwidth report in the bottom left hand corner.

Mine shows this in B/sec which technically means Bytes per second.
Which is a bit weird as bandwidth is normally measured in b/sec - bits per second.

Which one is it supposed to be?

Pretty sure it's bytes. Will see if I can find a source (don't hold your breath).

b/sec would be bits. B/sec would be Bytes. The capital "b" is important in this context.

Just to clarify this point (telecomms nerd here ), what is being measured is current usage as opposed to bandwidth. Similar to how Windows reports the speed of a file copy in megabytes per second (even if over a network) as opposed to megabits. 'Bandwidth' is the maximum theoretical capacity of a communications channel and you are correct it would usually be measured in bits per second.

I suppose I tend to think of maximum bandwidth as a description of the channel and bandwidth as the part of the available that I'm using because you get an immediate comparison without the multiplication.
I'm getting lazy in my old age.
