Why is it that sometimes when I plan a route I'm still unable to jump to the first star (drive fuel limit exceeded)? I made some modifications to my new Phantom, but I have the best jump drive. There's also no white dwarf star or neutron star in my system that the route planner might want to take advantage of.

I just don't get it why sometimes it doesn't appear to take my ships stats into account.

It uses stats at the time of the plot for the 1st jump.
If you plot then refuel or take on cargo you can now be too heavy for that 1st jump.

Check your galaxy map filters as well - as an example. maybe set star classes for KGBFOAM, then apply that to route, then check all star classes and apply that. Now see if your route hase changed,
