Elite / Frontier call 4 help

Hi guys I was just playing ffe and bumped into an imperial explorer in the outskirts of some god forsaken system:eek:. as usual it had a plasma accelerator and decided it had nothing better to do than cut a partially nasty hole in my Harris fighter:(. Instead of doing what I normally do thing. Is save and then try to doge it while annoying it with a 4mw beam laser. I used the communication button in the cockpit and called for help. Offcourse no one came no one ever comes so I killed it myself.:D But this got me wondering does calling for help actually do anything and has any help ever arrived?
I would like to hear from someone who has ever received help from anyone in space. or if there is anyone at frontier who programmed FFE and knows if calling for help does anything at all.

From memory I think it depends on what type of system you are in - Anarchy systems have no policing so you are not likely to get a response however in the more civilised systems the cops should eventually come running. (It's been a while since I played that game)

thanks i think i might try that out go to somwhere civilised and cry wolf:p and then wait.

Actually just thinking about it you might have to be within a certain range of a space station or something - Some of the other guys here are better equipped to give you a definitive answer.

I just tried it sitting out the front of a space station in a civilized system nothing happens the only way to get anyone out is to tell them to surrender or die.

ok ill wait for them
ha i noticed u are a kiwi im aussie.

Haha true - Nice to have another antipodean in here :D

Nah I assume there needs to be some sort of condition met like you're getting attacked by pirates close to the space station vicinity.

A few years ago now but played it to death and nobody ever arrived, so I don't think it's functional (anyone at Frontier know different?)

Of course in E4........

Unfortunately, the answer is no. Distress signals are ornamental only, and don't ever attract a bit of help no matter where or when you use them. I think people picking through the code have confirmed they're not even 'hooked up' to get a response. Which brings up the next question: after seeing the terrible way in which the local police abuse Viper spacecraft, would you really want their help? ;)
The 'surrender or die' option also always bothered me, as no matter how much damage you've done to an enemy the response is always 'Ha ha!' Seems like after shooting them a few times you ought to get them to spit up some cargo to save their lives, at least.

What got me in FE2 is that if I was under attack, heading for a Space Station, the Vipers would appear and shoot at ME!! Cheeky monkeys!
