Came across an issue I had not noticed before with dk2 can't find anyone else who has same?

Been playing with the dk2 on sli 970 setup and recently noticed a slight lag or stutter with the head traking in game, thought maybe the ultra settings were the issue so changed them to low and medium with no improvement.. So I went back to basics and noticed the same judder when running the oculus config demo ( the one with the desk). If I switch to direct mode the demo is super smooth but when in extended I get this annoying judder or lag.. at first I thought it was an sli issue, so I have just upgraded from my twin 970's to a 980 ti after I read this single card outperforms the twin 970's.i have an Asus 120hz main monitor and have tried setting a custom res of 75hz,had no effecti have tried oculus runtime 5.1, 6.0 and 6.1 with no change.i was running windows 8.1 and tried the windows 10 upgrade but still had the same issue although I could not run direct to rift in windows 10 to compare so have just rolled back to 8.1.tried the most recent and the 2 before nvidia drivers.so before I do a full windows reinstall on a new ssd drive can anybody chime in a solution I may have missed?or if it is normal for the demo scene not to run as smooth in extended mode than direct mode ( although I would have expected the opposite to be true)

From what you have posted the only things I can think of to try

1: try a different USB port
2: attach the track sensor to a powered USB hub and double check the DK2 power connector is still connected

I'm running 2 x 4Gb 770GTX in SLI, and the oculus config demo is super smooth in both extended and direct to rift mode. I'm running Oculus runtime 6.0.1 on a Windows 7 machine. Using NVidia drivers 347.52.
1) You could try cleaning the camera lens.
2) You could try scanning for a virus
3) You could try ensuring that in extended mode, the rift display is the focus display (setting it to primary display in Nvidia control panel will do that).
4) Check that there is nothing odd in the 3d settings page of NVidia control panel. Ensure the Virtual Reality pre-rendered frames setting is set to 1. So that the graphics card doesn't try to pre-render more than one frame.

I wouldn't recommend attaching the optional external power connector to the DK2. It's only required to power the headset USB port, which you are probably not using. And it is possible that a short in the connection box can cause your headset to be killed!
I know, it happened to me!

Do you have the power supply connected? (you can run without)

I found I had judder and also my IR camera would not always come on, until I plugged both USBs into a powered hub rather than the PC motherboard direct.

It is mentioned in the documentation, which says use the power adaptor supplied if you have issues without it.

Also mess around the camera position and make sure both wires are fully inserted into the headset. My guess is the usb port change will sort it though.

If you have it plugged into usb 3.0 try switching to 2.0 ports. Not everyone has problems with 3.0 ports but for me it just wont work correctly when in my 3.0 ports.

Thanks chaps, so it is unusual to get smooth motion in direct and jerky in extended when running the demo.. Thats what i needed to confirm.
I will try all your suggestions and let you know how it goes.

Quick update, tried everything, nothing improved..
New ssd drive and reinstall windows 8.1 with NVidia 355.60 and oculus runtime 0.51 and demo is smooth in both direct and extended.

Not sure what caused the issue but something must have corrupted in windows, at least it is sorted now.

I had something similar a few days back, a complete uninstall and reinstall of all DK2 runtimes / drivers and a "clean" install of Nvidia Drivers appeared to have fixed it for me.
