Came back after a very long time and well, I might be in trouble.

Hi fellow commanders. I came back to ED after a very long hiatus pre-factions. I have the horizon expansion and logged in for a few weeks many many moons ago. I logged in over the weekend and found myself around 90 jumps from eagles landing.

A quick jaunt into the depths of my bookmarks bar and I appear to be following the Colonia Connection. Appears I attempted to do this when it was all the craze.

I have a few questions though. I am doing this the grueling way after a sore mishap and losing my fighters. I am currently in a hauler. You read that right. with a hair over a million credits to my name.

I seem to remember with horizon you need the buggy to land on planets is that still the case? I did some quick searches and found with the exception of jaques station their are no oribital platforms and it doesnt have a shipyard.

With my fantastic 14ly jumprage as you can imagine im really eager to get into something else. I am hoping my cartographics help from a credit standpoint, but I dont remember enough about the game to know if I can land. If I cant and there is no shipyard I can interact with I might be amoung the stars without a paddle. Right now im in the middle of space hobbling along with my hauler and a fuel scoop.

Please bring me hope!

You only need an SRV to drive around on planets, not to land at planetary outposts.

Colonia meanwhile has plenty of shipyards and offers all non-faction ships at a slightly higher price. Excellent information about the area can be found here: https://cdb.sotl.org.uk/

Wouldn't it still be faster to move back to the bubble for a different ship though?

Just suicidewinder back to civilization. You'll probably be overwhelmed with space madness (boredom) trying to fly so far 14 LY at a time with nothing to do but jump and no SRV to break up the hours of pressing J. My guess is that garbage "gameplay" is why you quit those years ago and didn't log in since. Get back to the bubble, get some pals, do some mining for mega millions and start enjoying the game.

I was going to suggest this too.
Suicide, grab a few missions to get some more cash, then grab a Cobra and do some core only mining. You'll make a few million from your first rock, then you're all set to do whatever. You'll lose your explanation data though.
But 14ly range. Sheesh. How Is it so low? Even pre engineers the hauler taxi was pretty quick. Lol

This lol! I'm sure even pre engineer says you could get 20+ in a hauler.

Hi everyone! thank for the responses! I honestly am not sure if I should suicide and start over, but you may be right. Its possible thats why I lost interest prior. I will weigh my options and make a decision. Is their not alot to do in Colonia once I get their? Or is it really just that much of a slog to continue?

They may have fixed the suicide loophole. Now it may just take you to the nearest station. Not sure, never tried it myself.

No loophole to be fixed. In exchange for the instant teleport to civilization, you are forfeiting your current ship and every single credit and engineering material you put into it.

Right now, getting started over is easy. Find someone willing to do a quick low-quantity wing procurement mission and get free money.

It's been a while since I hated myself so much that I blew myself up, but as I recall, I did wind up at the nearest station.

Can you tell us in which system you are?

He is talking about the Express ticket to the bubble from colonia. Park your current ship, buy a sidewinder and suicide in it. At the rebuy screen, deny the rebuy and you'll end up with a freewinder in LHS3447.

I haven't done it lately but I see no reason why it wouldn't still work.

Do you know anything about the using the Neutron high way? Jump 2 or 3x your max jump range? So that 90 Jumps might be more like 45? Just remember to look up the risks.

You don't need the buggy to land at a surface base - they have landing pads for ships. Eagles Landing will let you restock and repair, and sell your data so far, but doesn't have a shipyard.

Your nearest shipyard is at Rohini - another 1350LY up the Scutum-Centaurus arm from Eagle. Rohini is about a year old so may be newer than the sources you consulted, and has some decent options for an upgrade from a Hauler.

From there you could either return to the bubble (shorter) or continue in a slightly faster ship to Colonia, which has expanded considerably since you were last around and has a substantial range of facilities, stations and systems.

Colonia is great if you are an explorer - lots of undiscovered country a few jumps away. After expanding in several waves the Colonia bubble also offers almost all amenities of the old world now (the Engineers in Colonia are only accessible after unlocking Engineers in the old world though, so you probably want to go back anyways). Less people in Colonia, and usually less idiots out to just ruin your day. If the Distant Worlds 2 expedition wouldn't be coming up I'd still be out there.

Well, I am crushed. I attempted eagles landing since I was so close, atleast to sell my maps for some money. I dont have a planetary approach module though. All that flight for nothing. The colonia connection is nothing but surface based landing pads. It was all for nothing.

I got out! I made it to a prison system. Eagle Sector IR-W d1-105 I was able to turn in all my cartographics for 22 mil! I then fought a convoy who promptly destroyed me and now im back in the 3447! OMW to get a Vipre MK3 and get back to making some credits!

Apologies if I am not understanding what you meant here, but you need to make sure that you launch the game using the Horizons option. That module will automatically be on every ship, but if you launch the base game, it won't be there.

Welcome back, much has changed since you left, and for the most part, those changes have been for the better.
