Came back to play after giving it a break for months, lost everything to an elite python in a normal trade run. I quit.

So i decided to check out elite again with the Horizons expansion on the rise. I left off in my fresh type 7 and I was building my funds back up to get on the roll with my trade routes again. Deep within my powers territory (HQ in fact) i took a contract to bring in semiconduters. I found a place to buy them only a few systems away, still deep in alliance controlled space. I pick them up, leave, and get interdicted by an elite python in less than a few LS from ally HQ. No problem, I evade interdictions all the time.... and im close to home anyway. I aim at the escape vector flawlessly, hardly any time broken away from the reticle... and this is where the bull begins. The pythons meter fills up in less than 10 seconds it seemed while i was pointed at my escape vector the whole time. He broke me from SC and started firing missiles at me nonstop. I cannot outrun him even while boosting, i cannot outmaneuver his gunfire because he is elite. He is picking at my shields while i dodge fire as best as i can until FSD is ready again. i managed to evade the missiles but his proximity and lasers make my FSD take forever to spool up again. i wasnt getting out of there without taking some heat damage. around 50% FSD my shields are down and i start taking module damage and fires begin popping up. i shut down the systems that were on fire and solved my fire issue on the fly. creeping up on 80% or so FSD, my hull is at 40% and dropping quick. I just BARELY made it back into supercruise with my ship temp at 270%... it starts cooling rapidly and my hull was at 3%.... THREE PERCENT!!!! what a relief! NO....... he interdicts me AGAIN before i reach HQ to finish me off. Without taking out a loan for 880~k credits I would lose absolutely everything ive spent months building up to get.....

i hate to say it but this game totally ruined me today. I had no chance of survival and i think i did a pretty epic job with the near escape with 3% hull left. what a great way to come back to this game right? total bull. this game is a piece of . what the am i going to do, spend another month or so just paying off my debt? no. i am done playing. that wasn't even fair. i wouldnt be so mad if it were a player, but today just reminded me how absolutely stupid elite dangerous is, and how you face the same repetetive risks of losing your ass. ive only died once, ever, when i first started playing and didnt know what the i was doing. im a seasoned trader, i aimed at my escape vector perfectly, but the game decided it was time for me to lube up and take it up the rear.

yes i am mad. any of you would be too. i will not be buying horizons.

* EDIT IN CASE PEOPLE MISS THIS FURTHER DOWN *

Hey commanders, OP here. Sorry it took me so long to reply to my ragerant. I had to get the mod to reopen it back up because I wanted to sort of apologize and also say thanks to those who gave very positive/informative replies about what I could have done better, and what has changed about the game since I last played. It is obvious I am not active on these forums and it looks like I signed up just ragequit.

Admittedly, I am quite embarassed that that is true >.<

I will also admit, that in my rage I left out the fact at how epic the experience actually was. I've cooled my jets and realized that my body was shaking and I felt a level of fear that I typically don't feel in games. As maddening as the experience was, and unfortunate (despite being cocky with my new toy), it was a good story to tell my friends about the next day. I also realized I miscalculated how much of a loss I was really taking.

Soooo!!! Thank you those who gave good replies, because you must be a good kind of person to offer a bit of yourself to someone who very obviously was rage-quitting. That says a lot about you, and something about the community too.

So my form of repayment for being a crybaby about it, and to respect those good peoples out there in this dangerous galaxy, I am already, and will be giving the game another chance with a more objective mindset. I have already taken this opportunity to trade my type 7 in to pay off my claim, and bought a cobra, completely kitted it out, and I still sit on about 6.5 mil.... rebuy is about 500k i think? I've opted out of powerplay for now until I can understand it better, and I will be dabbling about the galaxy doing whatever seems good at the time until I find a something more permanent thing to do.

And yes... I will probably still get horizons because im a sucker for planetary landings <3

guess you must have been gone awhile. NPCs are no longer just a mere minor annoyance like a fly that keeps bugging you. They are getting closer to being what they should be and that is dangerous.

Good flying there, congrats.

Flying a T7 since the new 1.4 patch is very questionable. Doing so while pledged to Powerplay is just madness.

If dying once or twice is enough reason to quit the game, nobody will be able to help you, since I honestly believe the game is designed in a way that implies that players will die now and then. This is ok.

800.000 K can be earned easily. In many different ways. If you insist on trading, get out of PP and maybe use an Asp until insurance is solved. Drop the T7 like a hot potato.

I am sympathetic to the emotional turmoil you must be in, but you must know this thread is going to end up with dozens of posts saying "you should have high-waked" and "you should have kept back more credits for insurance." Cold comfort I know, but there were ways to avoid what happened.

ED can seem unbelievably harsh at times but there are nearly always ways to minimise or avoid the loss. It's just that most of those ways involve a reduction in profit or a delay in time, and pilots can get complacent when it comes to risk/reward calculations. Or simply panic when it happens, and forget what the best course of action is. We've all been there.

The interdiction thing is unfortunate, and there definitely are issues with the difficulty curve in the current builds. I hope you change your mind and give the game another shot, but under the circumstances I'll understand if this really was the final straw. But you still have to accept some responsibility for not covering your rebuy, and not escaping to a different system when you had the chance.

I have to say, that since the 1.4 patch I have been killed twice and it really makes the game edgy, before this I have dropped into a SSS and taken on master+ level groups of 4-5 ships alone and beaten them (even a group of four vultures v me in mine). Now if I see a ship in a wing of even 2 I think twice before engaging, it really is getting dangerous out there. For the OP I really do feel for you having come back to another very steep learning curve, but you will hear the same thing again and again..........Insurance, watch the ships in local space, and if they are closing for an interdiction and if you are going to take sides be prepared to be opposed.

What was your loadout? Since the last few patches some builds are pretty risky - namely running without shields, or with low shield or hull stats. If you want a safe build, it's best to sacrifice some jump distance in order to get a better shield, some shield boosters, chaff, maybe a shield cell bank module or two and hull reinforcement. You can try out different builds here: http://coriolis.io/outfit/type_7_transport/ . If you calculate jump distances right you don't need to make any extra jumps with a good build.

1- Never fly without insurance, of course.
2- Never take part in Powerplay.

Couldn't agree more.
As for the OP I have no sympathy whatsoever. I also agree with Trueno33, its things like being attacked that keep me interested. Obviously this game is not for you, no problem with that.

OP, have some Rep!
Sounds like very cool experience - just escaping from an interdiction! :)
Too bad he finally got you anyway. :(
Maybe after your rage has calmed down a little you will start thinking about what to do before getting out into space again...

The game is more challenging now - and this is a very good thing!
Before 1.4 it was very hard to loose a ship because of an NPC.
Now you really have to watch your six.

I lost my mining Adder (yes - I'm new to minig ;) ) when trying to come home from Sothis to Lugh while doing a nice long range smuggling mission on the way.
I think it was a viper that got me - I first tried to fight back (I can stand a fair ground against many NPCs with the dual beam lasers I have).
When I realized that won't work this time I tried to run - but it was too late.

NPCs react very differently depending on the ship you're flying, too.
My Adder finally reached it's home base in Balandine Gateway (after paying my insurance and therefor loosing my mission and my cargo) without further notice by NPCs.
After changing to my battle Vulture i got instantly interdicted by System Security several times...
I like this kind of variety!

I don't think the OPs looking for any answers, just to vent his spleen.

What passions ED can create :)

Once he's calmed down he'll make back the cash I expect.

There's no point discussing his post though, there's no need to have a thread full of 'serves you right'.

Closing for @viralspider's own protection then.

@viralshark PM me if you'd like it opened, if you ever come back here. Did look a bit like a rant-and-run.
