Camera control for videos

I've seen some really amazing in-game videos of people's zoos and I really want to make one for my zoo. How do these people control the camera so smoothly to do a fly-through? I really wish there was a way to walk through my zoo in first-person mode for this! I keep wanting to set up a camera track or something similar but that's not really an option. Am I missing something? Is there a trick to this?

You can use a Gamepad to move smooth, but you cant set any sensitivity for it which makes it really hard for me to move like i would.

I would love to be able to create an invisible camera track to make videos. That would be the best option but probably not enough demand for something like that. I wonder if a Space Navigator/SpaceMouse would do it? A bit expensive but I'm always looking for an excuse to buy a new gadget
