Camera Limpets - a multicrew concept for noncombat roles

Lots of exciting stuff happens out in the various areas of space that would be hard to record as a neutral cameraperson.

For persons wanting to participate in the recent event out in the Formidine Rift, there was not much in the way of figuring out which system to get to and how to get there first - instancing is a bit of a chore to deal with.

I offer this little tidbit of an idea.

Camera Limpet Launchers could be used to fire off tiny camera modules controlled by telepresense, that is, controlled by a pilot from another location, and ultimately expendable.
In theory the camera limpets would be more maneuverable, smaller, and less expensive to replace than a full blown ship, but ultimately very fragile.

Players who want to cover an event as it happens could livestream the process of launching each camera, providing little mini-screens of view to show off angles previously unheard of - getting a great shot of the action is a lot easier when you don't have to worry about death. More importantly, you don't run the risk of interfering in the event itself. It's of course up to the reporters to inform their subjects that they are being recorded.

Right now, the only option is to either livestream yourself, record yourself, or host a multicrew session and hope that your muticrew partner is not a troll, and that they have a good setup for recording, but even then, you have to not only be good at flying, but also "getting the shot" without getting shot. Might be too many things at once.

If however, you had to just get to the right system, fire off some cameras, and keep track of the footage, that would be a lot more manageable.

Camera drones could come in a variety of flavors.

type a: no supercruise capabilities. can send footage to ship within same system. mothership is allowed to hop between points, perhaps to cover footage from all three conflict zones in a system.
type b: supercruise capability but limited fuel. can travel within said system.
type c: supercruise capability, more fuel, and long distance communication. experimental unexplained tech allows for communication of broadcast instantly, but only within 2 light years. Capable of a single jump but only for emergency use to jump back with valuable recordings. Can be used to warn of systems too dangerous to enter, after the demise of its pilot. intent is to preserve footage.

each drone would have to be controlled by a certified pilot, thus an actual player, not an NPC. But the idea could lead to some interesting PVE encounters, so there's that.

I like this and lend my support to it if we can add a type d: stationary tracking camera (stays in place, but rotates in place to track the selected object). It is IMHO the one thing missing from the existing camera suite.

That's brilliant, and adds a lot to the concept.
